Knight Music
We wanted to share pictures of our LNMS chorus experience from UCF Celebrates the Arts Choral Invitational.

Our students worked with the nationally known clinician Dr. MacMullen from Ohio State University and performed on stage at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts! Lake Nona Middle was one of only two middle schools invited to attend this event. Our students learned from others and connected with other students in OCPS through this amazing experience.

* Please see a second chorus picture at the very top of this week's issue!

As a comparative on the hard work, practice, and dedication these LNMS music students put forth to win their awards on Saturday, April 7th:

"I was the guy who practiced until the blisters bled,
and then practiced some more. When I was a kid I carried my
bat to class with me. I'd run a buddy's newspaper route if I could
get him to shag fly balls for me. When I played for San Diego,I paid
kids to shag flies for me on my days off."

Track & Field

This past week our track teams competed against Walker Middle School and Freedom Middle School. Our teams did not disappoint and brought home two wins!

Vianney Ojeda placed 1st in the long jump for the Lady Knights helping us get off to a good start during field events. In the mile, Gianna Celeste and Delaney Richgels placed 1st and 2nd once again with personal records. Celeste also placed first for us in the 800m.  Our Lady Knights 4x100 relay team ( Kysri Burton, Arianna Slater, Anisa Palma, and Anaya Brown) got first place again during this meet and broke a school record as well. Brown does it again! This young lady broke another school record! She broke the 200m school record last year and broke her own school record by running a 26.59 during Wednesday's meet. Job well done ladies!

Zane Durant, Sebastian Urbina, and Raheem Abdul-Haqq all claimed the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place spots for the shot put! Once again, Omar Lopez had a great evening placing in all 3 of his events for the Knights. Zachary Jones continues to do a remarkable job, claiming 1st place in the mile and the 800m. Juan Herrera also had a great evening for us placing 2nd in the mile and the 800m.

Our track & field student-athletes have been working so hard and as a result, they continue to cut their times and set personal records. It's amazing to watch!

Our next meet is at home Wednesday, April 18th. Due to it being a normal release day, we will start at 5:30pm instead of 5:00pm. Please come out and support your Knights as this is our last home meet. This meet is crucial as Hunter's Creek is undefeated as well.

* We would also like to wish our Head Track Coach Mrs. Jennings the best of luck Monday as she competes in the 122nd Boston Marathon. You're a true inspiration!

Knight Science
The Royals got a chance to work with Bahama Bucks in learning about the different states of matter. The students had an opportunity to eat flavored "snow" and even play with a snowball.

Reward & Recognition
One of the rewards was that students who read 10 or more of the books by Spring Break (March 16th) received a pizza party. This year we had 29 students who achieved this goal! We celebrated that achievement on Thursday, April 5th.

Battle of the Books
Next, we had our county-wide Battle of the Books competition on April 11 at Winter Park 9th Grade Center. Our team has been meeting, reading the SSYRA books, and writing questions on all 15 books since October in preparation for the battle. Although we were not victorious, we placed 8th overall of out 38 teams, so not too shabby! I know they are already thinking about next year and how to get to the top spot!

Congratulations to Arnav Chhabra, Khadeejah Ahmed, Sam Batlemento, Sammy De La Espriella, Elias Oliphant and Chandani Sahadeo for being a wonderful team!

SSYRA Voting
Lastly, all SSYRA Card Holders (students who have read 3 or more of the Sunshine State Books) are eligible to vote for their favorite book. On Friday, April 13th students reported to the media center to vote on computer through the county supervisor of elections website specifically set up fo the SSYRA voting. Here are our results:
