MACARTHUR FOUNDATION TO GIVE $24.3 MILLION TO CHICAGO-AREA ARTS GROUPS
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation (Julia Stasch), in partnership with the Prince Charitable Trusts and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation, will invest $24.3 million over the next five years to extend its ongoing support of Chicago-area cultural organizations.
The grants offer general operating support to 300-plus theaters, music institutions, dance companies, film groups, museums, conservatories, zoos and more, according to an announcement from the MacArthur Foundation.

 UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO TRAUMA CENTER SET TO OPEN MAY 1
The University of Chicago Medicine (
Sharon O'Keefe) will open a Level I adult trauma center on May 1. The program will treat people with traumatic injuries, such as gunshot wounds, vehicle crashes, burns and falls.
"The goal of the projects, including the trauma program, is to respond to unmet needs in the community. The hospital's occupancy rates are often 90 percent or higher. On a daily basis our hospital is all too often completely full, we knew we had to develop a solution," said Sharon O'Keefe.

 CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDEN RECEIVES GRANT MONEY TO PROTECT HORTICULTURAL RECORDS
The Chicago Horticultural Society is getting more than $200,000 in federal grant money
from the National Endowment for the Humanities
to protect fragile horticultural records housed at its botanic garden north of the city.
The Chicago Botanic Garden is owned by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society.
