Spring 2018 Pre- and Postdoctoral Fellowship 
Recipients Announced

ASF President Alison Singer announced the 2018 fellowship recipients at the 5th Annual Day of Learning.

Three pre-doctoral and five postdoctoral research fellowships, totaling $250,000, will be awarded to student/mentor teams conducting research in brain function, attentional deficits, gene interactions and social interactions of people with autism.  The predoctoral recipients are Amy Ahn (University of Maryland), Cara Keifer (Stony Brook University), and Julia Yurkovic (Indiana University). The five postdoctoral fellows are Drs. Joon An (UCSF), Laurel Joy Gabard-Durnam (Harvard University), Aaron Gordon (UCLA), Whitney Guthrie (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia), and Christine Ochoa-Escamilla (University of Texas Southwest Medical Center).  In making the announcement, ASF President Alison Singer said "We are delighted to support and encourage cutting-edge research by these impressive young scientists whose work holds so much promise."  You can learn more about the fellowship recipients and their projects from the official press release here.

On April 11, the Autism Science Foundation held its 5th Annual Day of Learning at the New York Athletic Club.  The speakers provided insight into the current science in important areas of autism research, including sleep, diet, and the potential of medical marijuana as an autism treatment.  ASF also presented Caryn Schwartzman Spirit Awards to Marjorie Madfis of Yes She Can, Inc. and Ellen and Jonah Zimiles of [words] Bookstore in recognition of their work developing employment opportunities for adults with autism.  The Caryn Schwartzman Spirit Awards are presented annually to outstanding parent advocates.

Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Autism Science Foundation.  Singer announced that the 2019 Day of Learning will be followed by an Evening of Celebration, a fundraising gala to celebrate the progress in research that has improved the lives of people with autism and their families.  All of us at ASF hope you will join us for both events.
Inside Philanthropy on the Significance
of ASF's Undergraduate Grant

Inside Philanthropy , a group that urges transparency in philanthropy and tracks philanthropic trends, recognized the uniqueness of the Autism Science Foundation's  Undergraduate Summer Research Grant program  in a recent article, which can be read  here .  A key part of ASF's mission is a focus on funding the brightest young investigators to spur long term careers in autism research.  You can read more about the most recent recipients of ASF's undergraduate research training award in the official press release here.

Ride and Walk FAR!

For the first time, ASF's annual cycling event,  Wall Street Rides FAR (For Autism Research) , will include a  5K walk !  Everyone can participate!  Come out with your family and friends to support ASF-funded research and enjoy the fall foliage in beautiful Westchester County, NY on  Saturday, October 13, 2018 .
