New Overnight Parking Procedure:
The Whitefish Bay Police Department began using a new overnight parking system March 31st. The link for the website to request overnight parking permission can be located at https://parking.wfbvillage.org/ or in the Parking Permits section of the
Village Website. We will no longer accept overnight parking permission by telephone. A maximum 15 nights permission per vehicle are allowed annually at no cost. If you require more than 15 nights, monthly parking permits can be purchased.
The new system allows monthly parking permits to be purchased online rather than coming to the Police Department during normal business hours. Permit sales for the next month will be allowed starting at 5 AM on the last day of the current month. Monthly permits can still be purchased at the station (currently housed in the Public Works Department at 155 W. Fairmount Ave.) from 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Requests for overnight parking permission must be made prior to 3 a.m. of the current day. No parking permission will be granted during a declared Snow Emergency. As a reminder, all vehicles parked on the street must be moved at least once every 24 hours, regardless of any permission granted or parking permit held.

Medication Drop Off Information
The Police Department is
Not accepting Medication Drop Off in the Temporary Location at 155 W. Fairmount Ave., or at Recycle Day in the Bay on Saturday, May 5. However, they will be accepted for one day on Saturday, April 28, from 10:00am - 2:00pm.
Whitefish Bay will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th. Items will be accepted from 10 am - 2 pm at the Temporary Village Hall/PD location, 155 W. Fairmount Ave, Whitefish Bay. No drop offs will be accepted any other time.
The temporary facility we are in does not allow for storage of the items that we collect that day and in the past the location and volume of people offered us little control of what we accepted. We ended up with syringes and other items that were very hard to dispose of.

Being an election worker is a great way to serve your community, become part of the dedicated team that makes the election process easy, or to simply meet new people! Duties may include registering voters, monitoring voting

Village Hall and Police Department operations will be shared with DPW at their location at 155 W Fairmount Ave at Lydell until Fall 2018. Customer Service Window hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday - Friday.
Yard Waste Pickup has begun. All yard waste must be containerized. No grass clippings. Containers should not weigh more than 50 pounds.
Yard waste continues Mondays/Tuesdays starting on north end of Village (weekly)
Chipper continues Wednesdays/Thursdays starting on north end of Village (bi-weekly)

EAB (Emerald Ash Borer) Treatment Plan Schedule and Color Code Key:
What do the colors mean that have been sprayed on the trees in the Village?
- Green - EAB Treatment
- Black - Tree Trimming
- 2 Pink Dots (with aluminum tag) EAB tree removal, which will begin Monday, April 16, and lasting approximately 93 trees which will take 4-5 weeks
- White dot (very few, none at this point) marking, as needed, throughout the year of hazardous trees not related to EAB removal
Emerald Ash Borer season is approaching and the Village will be maintaining ash trees in the public domain. In order to keep your own ash trees thriving, Kevin Kaegi, Public Works Superintendent and Arborist, offers these tips for the trees on your property.
Signs and Symptoms of an Emerald Ash Borer infestation:
- Watch for symptoms of tree stress
- First symptom ash trees suffer from is crown dieback, when the tops start to die off first, and dead branches are visible throughout the canopy beginning at the top - note ash trees also suffer this symptom when under stress from other problems as well - this is just generally the first sign of trouble for an ash
- Epicormic Sprouting begins to occur as the tree grows new branches and leaves wherever they can, often in odd places like the base of the tree and trunk
- Bark splits and Flecking - vertical splits in the bark as well as small chips of bark come off, especially when woodpecker feeding increases and strips of bark pop off the tree
- Signs of larval activity in trees
- Check for any D-shaped exit holes created by an adult emerald ash borer, about 1/8 inch in diameter

Sidewalk Markings: Updated April 16, 2018
Currently, sidewalk in the southwest corner of the Village is being marked for sidewalk improvements. A white circle indicates the sidewalk block will be replaced. "L" shaped marks indicate that the raised portion of the sidewalk will be ground down to minimize tripping hazards. A white line parallel to a joint abutting a white circle indicates a saw cut.

Residential Trash and Recycling Collection Program

The deadline has passed to pre-order an additional refuse cart or switch down to a smaller size cart. When delivery of the new refuse carts is made, additional cart purchases may be made at that time and ongoing.
New Cart Delivery and Old Cart Collection dates will be announced as soon as they are available via postcard to all residents and in this newsletter. Every attempt to recycle old/unwanted cans and carts will be made.
New Program Cart Placement:
- Ideally, carts will be placed along the parkway or on the carriage walk within three feet of the street, oriented with (closed) lids opening to street. Arrows on both Refuse and Recycling carts should point to the street or alley. Carts should be at least three feet apart from each other or any other obstacles (such as streetlights).

- In order for the automated arm to reach each cart, a minimum of three feet between each cart is needed.
- No extra items on or near the carts will be picked up with the regular collection.
- New collection schedules will be provided in an Information Packet with the new refuse carts. Refuse pickup will remain weekly, while Recycling will increase to every other week when the program begins.
- Special Pickup Guidelines will be outlined in the Information Packet attached to your new Refuse Cart upon delivery.

Drivers today are more distracted than ever. From texting to eating to settling sibling disputes in the back seat, there are countless distractions that can fatefully take your focus off the road.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a united effort to recognize and eliminate preventable deaths from distracted driving. With technology advancing at a rapid pace, it is more common to have technology including cell phones, navigation systems, and other items in a vehicle. The latest statistics show motor vehicle fatalities are up 6% from 2015.
More than 40,000 people
were killed on our nation's roadways last year, and distracted driving is a major contributor.
What are the laws in Wisconsin?
* Texting while driving is against WI law for any driver unless operating an emergency vehicle
* Wisconsin drivers are required to use hands-free devices through areas of road construction
* Wisconsin officers can cite drivers for any distracted driving violation
* Cell phone usage while driving is prohibited for novice drivers with learner's permits or an intermediate license
* It's illegal to have any electronic device providing entertainment value by visual means located in the view of the driver, unless a commercial driver
We can all play a part in the fight to save lives by ending distracted driving. If you feel strongly about distracted driving, be a voice in your community by supporting local laws
or advocating for stronger ones

The ceremony will be an opportunity for Veterans to connect with one another and for the community to honor our country's fallen service members. The event will also give Whitefish Bay families a way to teach children the meaning behind Memorial Day and to witness traditional military customs. The program has attracted nearly 800 Whitefish Bay residents and veterans each year, and has been a meaningful tribute to those who gave their lives serving our country.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Healthy Communities Project, the Village of Whitefish Bay, Whitefish Bay School District and Whitefish Bay Garden Club, the Village of Whitefish Bay has used natural lawn care practices at Klode Park since 2013. This safe, sustainable approach restores soil and grass health, protects Lake Michigan from polluted runoff, and reduces fertilizer and water usage over time.
The Midwest Pesticide Action Center of Chicago and Healthy Communities Project of Whitefish Bay welcome you to join us for a family-friendly afternoon of interactive educational games, presentations and demonstrations designed to provide everything you need to know to create a healthy, natural and beautiful home lawn. The event will conclude with a raffle for Patagonia items.

PLAY BALL Fundraiser for Whitefish Bay Little League
Whitefish Bay Little League is proud to announce its annual Play Ball Fundraiser will be held Friday Night
April 27, 2018 at the Whitefish Bay Women's Club. The Play Ball Fundraiser is Whitefish Bay Little League's only fundraiser of the year and is a perfect season-opening bash to celebrate the beginning of another baseball season. Play Ball is open to the public and will feature:
- Live music
- Beer, wine, and food (included in the ticket price)
- Over 30 silent and live auction items thanks to our many local businesses and sports organizations.
All proceeds benefit Whitefish Bay Little League and the over 500 children and 400 families that play, support, and represent Whitefish Bay baseball. Whitefish Bay Little League is a non-profit organization that operates solely on revenue from league registration fees, fundraisers, and concessions.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at
WFBLL.com for $40 or at the door for $50. Play Ball doors open at 6:30pm and close at midnight. Please join us in celebrating youth baseball in Whitefish Bay! See you on April 27!

- Stitching: 9am-12noon 2nd and 4th Mondays - creating teddy bears for people in need.
- Knitting: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 10am to 12noon at the Woman's Club. Knitting hats for the deployed soldiers.
