As we are getting closer to the move in date at our new campus on 3501 Southmore, we wanted to make sure our students and families are aware of the new parking policies for the campus. There will be NO street parking around the Southmore campus. This year, we have quite a few students who drive to school but do not park in the student lot. Next year, that will not be an option. We have plenty of parking spaces on campus to accommodate all of our students! In order for students to park on campus next year, students will need to:
  1. Complete the student parking application
  2. Pay the student parking fee
  3. Provide proof of insurance, with the student listed as an approved driver on the vehicle
Without that documentation, students will not be allowed to drive to school. We appreciate your support in getting that documentation taken care of this summer in order to ensure that all drivers have the appropriate paperwork to park on campus at the beginning of the school year!

On Thursday, May 25th, the Nexus Novas held their last student-driven exhibition, showcasing their latest PBL experience, titled "Think Inside the Box". Each class created their own subscription box service to educate students about different global colonies throughout history. Individual groups created a monthly box centered around an individual colony that included a chemistry experiment, robot, and informational booklet. At their exhibition, the students displayed their boxes and presented to industry professionals from the Martian Society subscription box company. Visitors earned "money" that they could invest in the company they felt was worthy of financial support. At the end of the night, the company with the most investments, Intercrate, won and got a trophy. Finally, the top groups from each company received a $25 Amazon gift card.
We are looking for student leaders! If you are currently in 9-11th grade and interested in being a mentor for incoming 9th graders at our Summer Bridge Camp.  Please sign up using the following link:

It's a ton of fun and a great way to welcome our new Energy family!
Leo Wall is currently a sophomore in the Nexus Novas cohort and a valuable member of Energy's Publications team. He has contributed to the team by partaking in the morning announcements and writing pieces about the senior, freshman, and sophomore classes. Lately, he has focused on the sophomore class and weekly spotlights. This summer, he will be participating in the Pratt Institute Pre-College Program in Brooklyn for one month. There, he will attend college classes covering art history, foundation, concentration in painting and drawing, and portfolio development. He also hopes to learn French over the summer. Leo also received a scholarship for a 3-year advanced portfolio program with the Glassell School of Art, and next year, he will be moving onto his last year at the school where they will focus on three-dimensional design. Additionally, he is excited to come back to school and continue leading another successful year for Energy's Art Club. He has high hopes for what the art club will be able to accomplish, such as participating in art car again for his third year in a row.
Elizabeth Ramos has played a pivotal role in the success of the Publications team. She is currently a sophomore and was the first student on the team to do morning announcements. Throughout the year, she has contributed pieces about Energy juniors and freshmen to the weekly newsletter. This summer, Elizabeth will be traveling to Chicago for the Lorenzo De Zavala Youth Legislative Session  (LDZ) as part of the National Hispanic Institute  (NHI). While at LDZ, she will participate in a series of leadership challenges and activities alongside high schoolers from around the country. Together, they will work to take charge of their own youth government. Elizabeth is also a coach for 9th-grade students in NHI who are preparing for their Great Debate program. She will also be traveling to Washington and Oregon with GeoFORCE , where she will explore different aspects of geoscience through research and first-hand experiences. She also hopes to volunteer at the Energy Freshman Bridge Camp and looks forward to working on the Art Car once again next year. In addition to all of her academic and extracurricular interests, Elizabeth loves going to the movies, baking, and spending time with her family.

Naole Simbassa is a very talented senior in the Publications team, and he has been at Energy for all four years. Though he can be shy and reserved at times, he does not hesitate in taking responsibility for a piece which involves in-school and out-of-school activities. Naole is a skilled photographer and has mastered different aspects of digital design. This summer, he plans to get a job, visit Turkey, and later on in fall, enroll in Texas A&M Corpus Christi to study to become a graphic designer. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
Nicolette Beguerisse is a currently a sophomore at Energy. She is a dedicated and ambitious student who continuously puts in work to overcome daily obstacles and succeed. For the Publications team, she wrote pieces covering both junior and sophomore events, such as FRC Robotics competitions, the Future Farmers of Earth project, the Lone Star Central Robotics competition, and field trips. "I have really enjoyed all of the pieces I have covered. It makes me feel like I am learning more every time I write about a new topic. Finding out what is going on at our school truly fascinates me, as well as improving the look of the newsletter that tells the school's stories and students' accomplishments." This summer, Nicolette plans to travel to Peru with CIEE (a summer study abroad program) for a month. She is also joining an EMERGE college tour in upstate New York and will go on a family road trip. For her future, she hopes to take as many AP classes as possible and apply for internships at architecture firms. One of the things that never goes unnoticed about Nicolette is her energy and infectious positive attitude.  As a part of the Publications team, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside someone who's as positive, dedicated, and ambitious as Nicolette. I hope you achieve all the things you set out to do and I wish you nothing but the best. We know the sky is the limit for you.
Trisha Litong is currently a senior at Energy. It is her final year here before studying at Stanford University this fall. She was accepted with the help of the EMERGE program and earned many scholarships. Trisha hopes to study Engineering; however, she is open-minded to other fields. She truly hopes to broaden her horizons and study abroad in Asia and Africa. One thing Trisha is most looking forward to is being in a motivated and supportive environment, and she really wants to find who she is as a person.  Throughout the year, Trisha has been our head editor for the Publications team and assisted all of us whenever we needed extra assistance with any piece. She wrote pieces for underclassmen about college and summer programs. This summer, she plans on relaxing and spending as much time as she can with her family and friends before she leaves for California. She plans on going on a road trip along the west coast and getting a summer job to start saving for college. Trisha speaks on how much she will miss Energy and its people. She will miss the closely-knit the community and especially Freshman Summer Bridge Camp, which she has participated in every year as the head speaker. One thing she is most proud of is the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam club that she founded and has seen grow over the years. She cannot wait to see it thrive once she leaves and states, "Attending EurekaFest at MIT was my end goal, but it is definitely not the end of InvenTeam."
Elizabeth Kim is a graduating senior at Energy.
She is a dedicated and hard worker no matter what obstacle she encounters. For the Publications team, she has written pieces covering Senior events, such as the Awards Night, Engineering Exhibition, and field trips. This summer, Elizabeth plans to earn a job and rest before her start at Barnard College, an all women's college. For her future plans, she will earn her bachelor's degree with a major in Psychology as she hopes to become a psychologist. At Barnard, she is hoping to grow her confidence and establish meaningful relationships with other students, professors, and people she encounters in New York City. For college, Elizabeth is most excited about gaining her independence and traveling to such a lively city. She is thankful for the strong relationships she began at Energy. She feels that the friendships she has made here will last a lifetime. Even though she does not plan to pursue an engineering-focused education, Elizabeth is thankful to Energy for helping her realize what she wants to study and become in the future. We wish nothing but the best for you, Elizabeth! Good luck on your endeavors and we know you will go far.
