A Word from our PFA President, Dawn Sue-Dare

Wow. Just wow. It's crazy to think that we have just 5 full weeks remaining in this school year!?! How is that possible?

A special shout out to the following parents who helped coordinate some of the great events during the month of April! Mahalo... to Tiffany Lawrence and Samantha Barnett (and to our Boys & Girls Club team) for coordinating Bay Laurel's Family Fun Day on April 7th; and to our Auction Team, Dana Shafran, Michelle Mironer, Samantha Barnett, Sonya Youtan, and Tiffany Lawrence for coordinating all of the moving parts for our annual online auction!

A HUGE thank you to all the families who came to show support during our April restaurant FUN-raiser at The Stand Calabasas !

I hope you'll join us at our PFA Meeting next week - Tuesday, May 14th, from 8:30-9:30AM in the MPR! We always welcome new faces at our meetings -- we'd love to hear your ideas & feedback, and we are always searching for new volunteers to join our various committees or become chairs for our special events!

I hope to see you at our annual Spring Dance ("Beats & Sweets") at AC Stelle on Friday!

Counselor's Corner with Ms. Carter

Hello Bay Laurel Families! I hope you are all doing well as our year winds down and we start to feel the excitement of summer’s approach! Here are a few happenings on the Counselor’s Corner. Last month we had our 4 ^th graders take over for our 5 ^th grade Peaceful Players and they are doing a great job! Also, I have finished our year-round program of the Second Step Program (social-emotional program) for our J/K through 1 ^st grade. They practiced inviting others to play, asking to join in, problem-solving, chill skills, and how to show kindness to all.

Parenting Tip - Mental Health Awareness Month- Recently, there has been a lot of research on screen time and the increase of over-active and impulsive behaviors in children. Here is a short article with some tips on how to reduce screen time for our kids.

Homework Tip - It is okay to take a break. Determining how frequent a student needs a homework break is going to vary from individual to individual. It may be helpful to have them walk around, jump rope, jump on a trampoline, or do jumping jacks. Setting a timer can be useful because a student may be less resistant when the ownership on time is removed from the parent or guardian and given to the timer. Having them set the timer may be fun for them, too.

Lashes for Education Fundraiser in May!
