All Congregation Dinner and Meeting on June 10

We are asking all members of St. Mark's to join us for dinner together followed by the semi-annual meeting of the congregation on  Sunday, June 10, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Highlights include a delicious meal, marimba music, special activities for children (including a Bounce House), childcare for young children, a blessing of our new Preschool playground, and an important meeting where we hear updates on ministry, elect leaders, and adopt a ministry budget for the next fiscal year. Please sign up by clicking on the link (see below), or by adding your name to the sign up sheet in the Narthex at church. We hope to see you there!

We Love Receiving your Learn, Serve, and Grow Response Forms

So far, over seventy people have returned a Learn, Serve, and Grow Response Form and it is so good to learn about your desire to live out your faith in meaningful ways! We hope to receive many more Response Forms in the next few weeks, so please take time to fill one out and then drop it in the offering plate  on Sunday or send it to us in the mail.
The Learn, Serve, and Grow booklet is available in hard copy at church and online at this link . You can also click here to download a Response Form to print at home.

Four Laps to Go in the Fiscal Year at St. Mark's

The four weeks of June will bring us to the end of our fiscal year and we are still hoping to finish strong. If you need to get caught up on your Plan for Giving, or if you have the means to help us close the gap by going over and above what you normally give, June is the month for you. Finishing strong will also put us in a much better place as we start out a new cycle of ministry in July. Every gift you give makes a difference and it is greatly appreciated!

Member Picture Directory

Our congregation has grown and changed in the last four years since our picture directory was made, which means it's time to put together a new one! Lifetouch Photography will again be creating this resource for us. You will receive a complimentary 8x10 photo and a copy of the new directory just by having your picture taken. Pictures will be taken on  June 19-23 and July 11-14 . Please stop by the table in the Narthex  on Sunday  to schedule your appointment or schedule online at: https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/yd13z7hc/

Thank you!

Peace and Justice

Habitat for Humanity
Once again this year a team of volunteers from St. Mark's will help build a Habitat for Humanity house along with groups from local churches -- appropriately, the project is called "Building on Faith." The house is also part of the Thrivent Builds program this year and will be located in the Tillicum neighborhood of Lakewood, near JBLM. Tentatively, our workday will be Saturday, July 14, and like last year, we will probably have additional dates in August and September.  If you missed our display in the narthex on April 29, it's not too late to sign up as a member of our team! Please contact Tom Geary or Deborah Herforth for information or details. You can reach them by email at twgeary@aol.com or   deborahherforth@yahoo.com .

Bandage Rolling for Global World Ministries
Tacoma Lutheran would welcome a few new folks to help make bandages for Global World Ministries. A team of people meets at the Tacoma Lutheran Chihuly Family Art Center every Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 to cut and roll bandages which are then shipped out to be used where most needed; most recently to Africa. All materials are supplied. If you are interested just come to the art center on Wednesday at 10:00. If you have questions you can call Diane Schurr at 253-267-5760. Thank you!

Speak Up: Moral Voices

The Peace and Justice Committee at St. Mark's suggests we all consider using our moral voices to advocate for justice in the following areas: food, housing, creation, and immigration. There is a free family-friendly care of the ocean event at Foss Waterway Seaport on  Sunday June 10, open between  11 am and 4 pm. If you cannot attend, please click on Ocean Stories, then Ocean Actions from the link below to see what else you can do.

Thanks to St. Mark's for Supporting the  Greater Tacoma Peace Prize!

Our 2018 laureate is Melanie Denise Cunningham, Director of Multicultural Engagement at PLU. Each year, the GTPP participates in the  celebration of Norway's Constitution Day in Ballard.  Tom Heavey and Janet Ruud carried the GTPP banner (with our new logo!) - in the 17th of May Parade. And Laureate Melannie waved enthusiastically to the crowds from the back seat of a beautiful red convertible (thanks to Bob and Suzie Reynolds). What a fun day! (Photos by Fletcher Ward.)
