9:30 a.m. in the Music Room
. The
pickup choir
will run through the song a few times and then enjoy sharing the musical message with the congregation that same day.
Music will be accessible and interesting for all ages and skill levels, from four years old to 97 years young.

Huntsville Assistance Program
209 fabulous food items, 4 huge multi-packs, hundreds of toiletry items, and 4 packs of adult diapers were recently delivered to the Huntsville Assistance Program. Thanks to all who donated!
The Social Justice Committee
has a goal to collect at least 100 items each month for the food pantry.
Please put your nonperishable food items or personal care products donations in the basket in the church foyer for the Huntsville Assistance Program.
They run low on cereal, canned fruit, mac and cheese, peanut butter, instant mashed potatoes, Hamburger Helper-type meals, and canned veggies -- but not green beans or corn.
They are always grateful for our
donations. Thank you for your continued generosity!

INreach/OUTreach: Celebrating a Year in Children and Youth Religious Education
Join in a lively, multi-generational worship service that celebrates our year in Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE), sharing the stories and spiritual themes we've explored. Children and youth will help lead our liturgy, presenting what they have learned and accomplished this year. In addition, we will recognize our dedicated CYRE teachers and volunteers for their care and commitment. The service will be active and appropriate in length for all ages.

Calling all children and youth to attend the CYRE Appreciation Service! Even if you were not there for preparation day, we have parts for you and welcome your presence. Let's have a great turnout!
No Sunday morning CYRE classes will be held.
Nursery care for ages 0-3 will be offered as usual.

Summer Children and Youth Religious Education
I
n the summer months, the
Children and Youth Religious Education (CYRE) program takes a special turn from the
regular fall and spring curricula. We invite UUCH members and friends to plan a learning session for the children and youth. You'll be part of a teaching team as either the lead teacher or a helper, and we'll be sure to have a regular CYRE teacher there as support.
Even children and youth can partner with an adult to lead a session!
We invite you to sign up to lead a session that shares a special talent, hobby, skill, or learning area of yours.
Here are some topics to get your creative juices flowing: yarn crafts, music, finger painting, scrap-booking, nature walks, gardening, yoga, science, paper airplanes, drawing, Lego, origami, fossils, friendship bracelets, mythology, sidewalk chalk, pottery, cookie-making. The possibilities are limitless! What is a joy to you can be a joy to others.
Leaders will prepare a topic/activity that is adaptable to children ages 4 to 12. Senior high youth are invited to participate as leaders and helpers or to attend the regular worship service in the sanctuary. Because of our exciting program growth, we'll need even more leaders and helpers this summer than before! So don't be shy! We have room for the sharing of your gifts.
There's nothing like spending time with the children and youth at our church. Their energy, creativity, and intelligence are contagious. And they benefit from interacting with caring adults who make an investment in them. This is what multi-generational community is all about!
For the next month, we'll have posters in the Fellowship Hall where you can sign up for a summer Sunday session. Alternatively, you can contact

This Friday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Huntsville Master Chorale (HMC) will present their concert, Journeys, a vocal and instrumental homage to Huntsville's role in the birth of the state of Alabama and the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11's historic landing on the moon.
Two UUCH members, George Fletcher and Tim Miller, are members of HMC.
HMC sponsored the creation of a book marking the bicentennial of Alabama and the moon landing, entitled Journeys of Huntsville. Two other members of UUCH, John Sims Jeter and Angela Arnold, have written short stories and articles for the book. Journeys of Huntsville also includes an interview with the last surviving member of Wernher von Braun's German rocket team, Dorette Schlidt, 97 years old and living on Monte Sano. Dorette was von Braun's personal secretary at Peenemünde during WWII. The interview, by local writer Steve Gierhart, and an excerpt from Dorette's diary, are included.
Copies of the book will be presented in a ceremony before the concert to the community organizations who contributed articles and stories, including the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, the Huntsville-Madison County Historical Society, the Historic Huntsville Foundation, and Old Huntsville magazine.
The book may be purchased at Harrison Brothers Hardware on all major online booksellers. Proceeds from sales of Journeys of Huntsville go to the Huntsville Master Chorale.

Concerts on the Dock at Lowe Mill
Join your fellow UUs and friends at Lowe Mill for Concerts on the Dock!
Bring a picnic meal (or buy it there), and enjoy the company of new and old friends under the stars, at the grassy area just at the entrance to Lowe Mill and next to the water tower!
So far, there are six Friday night concerts planned.
The performers are great, fun and also diverse, and are all local and regional musicians! Children are welcome,
and most happily dance or hula hoop close to the stage! The schedule of performers is listed on the poster in Fellowship Hall. You can also click here for more information.
Plan to arrive by 5 p.m. to ensure a spot in our group's general area. The concerts will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will be a great time to eat our picnic dinners, socialize and get to know each other more deeply, and walk around the inside of Lowe Mill.
Everyone attending is invited to bring a blanket, picnic meal (or you can purchase food at Lowe Mill), drinks, and a dessert to share (if you wish). You can also wear your UU t-shirt!
Look for a U.U. sign on the grassy area in front of the main entrance of Lowe Mill, located by the Water Tower at
221 Seminole Drive SW in Huntsville. There is an accessible restroom right off the grassy area. Concerts are free, but parking is $5.

General Assembly 2019
June 19-23 in Spokane, WA
The Power of We
General Assembly (GA) is the annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Attendees worship, witness, learn, connect, and make policy for the UUA through the democratic process. It is an exciting event. Anyone may attend, but congregations must
certify
annually to send voting delegates. UUCH still has open delegates slots, so if anyone is interested in attending and would be interested in serving as UUCH voting delegate, please contact board president Susan Coddington.

The Knit Wits are part of the Care Committee, and no skill at knitting is required to join! The Knit Wits make care shawls for church members undergoing health challenges, as well as baby blankets, and also take on a variety of other projects, such as the yarn-bombing on the playground fence. You are welcome to join the group, and if you wish to learn to knit or crochet, there are good and patient teachers who would love to help you learn. You are also welcome to just come and chat.

will sponsor an open mic coffeehouse, an event which in the past has been popular for all ages.
You are invited to come and read poetry, sing, play music, or
make us laugh with your stories. There will be mics and speakers, as well as coffee and tea.
This is a free event for the whole family!

John Jeter lit a candle of sorrow: Dr. Elaine Wood Hughes, a high school classmate and lifelong friend, died on Palm Sunday in Montevallo.
Amanda Schuber lit a candle of sorrow: My college mentor's wife has taken very ill and is in the ICU in Tuscaloosa. Please hold Angie and her wife Dawn in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
LaDawn Edwards lit a candle of joy: After six years of scholarship and dogged persistence, Will Garrison successfully defended his PhD thesis in modeling and simulation. I had the pleasure of hearing how smart he is.
A candle of appreciation was lit: A gracious thanks to Wanda Snoddy, for pressure washing the sidewalk all the way from the north entrance to the south entrance.
