Workshop
Blessings: Chazzan Gesundheit Teaches the
Music of Prayers & Songs for Friday Night's Home Shabbat

Friday, May 10, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre, 750 Spadina Avenue, Room 318 (Please sign in at information desk on main floor)

Chazzan Daniela Gesundeit will guide us the through the musical liturgy of the home ritual.

In his influential book,  The Sabbath, Abraham Joshua Heschel describes Shabbat, the Sabbath, as " ... not an interlude but the climax of living." Friday nights are traditionally a time to gather with family and friends, to feast and sing, to bring an end to a week of work and the mundane, and to usher in the sacred day of rest. Using insights from  The Sabbath, and consulting the colourful musical traditions of Kabbalat Shabbat and the blessings for the Sabbath meal, we will discuss, learn, and sing our way through a Shabbat evening together. Participants will come away with an enriched understanding of the prayers and blessings for this weekly ritual.

This is a free event for the community, but you need to register through  Eventbrite before May 10.  Space is limited so please register now.

All welcome! Children and youth may attend with their adults but no childcare will be provided. We will serve challah and beverages as part of the ritual.
