May 4, 4pm, Greenwich Young Life invites all ages to our FIRST-ANNUAL Donut Dash 5k race at Havemeyer.  Register as a Runner, Sponsor or Event Volunteer.

May 7, 4pm - 7pm, Greenwich Youth Cheerleading League, Greenwich Town Hall. open to all entering gades 3-8 in the fall 2019. Questions: [email protected] or visit www.GYCL.org.

Jun 8, 10am - 4pm, All Abilities Day, Bruce Museum. There will be family-friend activities, including performances by the Travelling Lantern Theater Company and much more. Free. PTA Highlights
Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break. We have enjoyed celebrating Earth Week and thank you to the "Green" committee for all their efforts and to the students for their participation.  It was fun to see so many families walking and biking to school on Wednesday! 

The Riverside Run is coming up on Saturday, May 11th and we encourage everyone to sign up for this great family and community event.

Here are a few other events and important dates coming up:
  • Monday, April 29th - Blood Drive from 2-7pm
  • Monday, May 6th - Deadline to order Field Day T-Shirt (details below)
  • Saturday, May 11th - Riverside Run 

And finally, please note that we are still trying to fill a few open roles for our PTA committees next year.  Please see the details below and let us know if you are interested or have a special skill!

RIVERSIDE RUN - REGISTER NOW!

Kick off Mother's Day Weekend with the Riverside Run! There is still time to join this great community event.

Race Day is Saturday, May 11th at 8:30am. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9:30am.   
 
In the Grade Level Challenge, 1st Grade has taken the lead with 45% and 3rd Grade is close behind, for the class with the highest percentage participation.

ORDER YOUR FIELD DAY T-SHIRT!
Field Day is Friday, June 7th (rain date June 14th)
Riverside School Students will be divided into 4 colors and will compete against each other to see which color will be the 2019 Champion!
T-shirts are $8 each.* Please click here for the order form and instructions to order your child's T-shirt. You must fill out one order form per child.
 
The deadline to order is Monday, May 6. No late orders.
 
PE Teachers will assign colors and distribute the T-shirts to the students prior to the Field Day. 
*Purchasing T-shirts is completely optional. Any student not wearing a color war T-shirt will be provided a colored pinnie to wear for the day. Additionally, anyone seeking financial aid for the purchase of the T-shirt may contact Mr Weiss.
PTA OPEN ROLES FOR NEXT YEAR!
We are still looking for some great volunteers to join our PTA and various committees to help deliver the great programs and events for our students next year.

A few specific roles we are still working on filling include:
- PTA Website
- Graphic Designer
- Spring Schoolwide Art Show
- Art Display
- Veteran's Day
- Wellness
- Arts Enrichment Programs
- School Supplies

If you have other interests, please let us know as other areas have filled their lead roles but have needs on their committees.   Please contact Sarah Morris at [email protected] for more information or to discuss your interest in a specific role.
AUTHOR VISITS KINDERGARTEN CLASSES
On Friday, the award-winning author of the  Biscuit series, Alyssa Capucilli, visited each of our Kindergarten classes.  Ms. Capucilli shared her personal writing process including the inspiration for her stories.  She discussed developing characters and settings with the children and helped them understand how using action words can make a story come to life. Be sure to ask your child about the program!

RIVERSIDE SCHOOL BLOOD DRIVE
Please join Mrs. Browning and the Riverside
community to help replenish blood supplies for
patients like her brother John. John had a stem
cell transplant in December due to Acute Myeloid
Leukemia. He was the grateful recipient of dozens of red blood and platelet  transfusions during his 6 months of being in and out of the hospital.

MONDAY, APRIL 29th 2:00 - 7:00pm in the GYM.

To donate blood in CT, you must:

- Be at least 17 years old,

- Weigh a minimum of 110 lbs,
- Be in overall good health.

GROWING STRONG READERS - PARENT WORKSHOP
What does it take to read successfully in high school and college, and what should parents be doing now?

Joan Kelley, PUP Reading founder and former educator and Harvard Graduate School of Education Language & Literacy researcher, will talk about:
- T he three types of skills children need to read well
- Why books and other texts become more challenging for students in the middle and high school years.
- How parents and grandparents can support reading skill growth - in easy and accessible ways - from birth through grade three.

Tuesday, April 30th from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Boys & Girls Club.
Wednesday, May 1st from 10:00 to 11:30 am at Julian Curtiss School.

TWICE EXCEPTIONAL PARENT ROUNTABLE
The PTAC 2E Committee has one more Parent Round table discussions scheduled for this school year!
  • Tuesday May 2nd from 9:30am to 11am - Guest Speaker Bonnie O'Regan , ALP Facilitator, GPS. 
  • Topic: working with the Greenwich Public School System.
