ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Luther College Symphony Orchestra will present their spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Center for Faith and Life. The program features  Julius Conus's "Concerto for Violin in E minor" with violin soloist senior Elizabeth Shoemaker, a winner of the department of music 2017 Concerto Competition. Symphony Orchestra will also perform "The Firebird" 1919 Concert Suite by Igor Stravinsky.

J-TERM FAIR
- Thursday, March 22, Union Lounge, 9: 40-10:50 a.m. There are 23 proposed off-campus courses for J-term 2019. Come visit with faculty leaders about their programs. Applications open April 3.

Luther Alum Ervin Liz
('17) will share how he founded a specialty coffee import and roasting company, (Colombian Coffee Connection LLC) to fund his vision to improve the lives of people in Colombia. Ervin uses his business to fundraise from private donors, and with these funds, he and his business partner Jon Baklund build homes for abandoned indigenous elders in the Tierradentro region, Colombia.

Recognized for his performances across the U.S., Canada and Israel, visiting concert violinist Dan Auerbach will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall

Luther alumni guest lecturer Evan Mitchell, class of 2014, will re-examine some of the hidden gems of classical music during his lecture at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the Dahl Centennial Union, Mott Room. In a time when major orchestras, opera houses and art organizations are facing financial struggles, the classical music genre is also struggling to remain relevant with the current generation.
 
J-TERM IN GERMANY AND THE UNITED KINGDOM: The Paideia 450 course "Green Europe: Advanced Models of Sustainability" explores the state of the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables in the two largest economies in Europe.  Visit Berlin, London, and other amazing communities in Germany and the UK. An information meeting will be held from 4:00-4:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 in Valders 375. For more information, contact Jim Martin-Schramm or Soeren Steding .

J-TERM 2019 IN TANZANIA : The Paideia 450 course "People and Parks: Pastoralism and Conservation in East Africa" is a cultural immersion experience based in Maasai villages, small towns, and conservation areas in northern Tanzania. An information meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at 6:00 p.m. in Koren 216. For more information contact Lori Stanley  or Emily Neal. Note: Must have 60 credits by the end of fall semester to apply.

Jon Ailabouni, Luther College music faculty, will perform a trumpet recital with guest pianist James J. Kaufmann at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall. The performance includes original compositions by both performers.  

"Making Change," a collection of works responding to issues of hatred and violence, will be on display in the Center for Faith and Life Gallery through April 6. David  Kamm, Luther College assistant professor of art and Gallery Coordinator, created all of the works in the exhibit.

The Career Center is accepting applications for work-study positions for the 2018-19 academic year. Career Assistants work 8-10 hour per week assisting office staff with projects and data entry. Career Assistants will also present workshops and assist peers with resumes and cover letters. A detailed job description is available in the Career Center. Please submit a resume and cover letter to Carol Johnston in the Career Center by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2017.

The Dorian Choral Retreat, in its inaugural year, will be hosted this summer at Luther College from June 29 through July 1. This event, available to anyone interested who is at least 19 years of age, has a fee of $100 with no on-campus housing over the retreat, or $150 for a single, air-conditioned room Friday and  Saturday night on campus. A $10 discount is offered to people who are coming with a roommate. For more information, visit the webpage.

RERUNS
Faculty Artist Series: Carla Thelen Hanson and collaborator Ainhoa Urkijo will present a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music, Noble Recital Hall. They will perform works by Claude Debussy, Henri Duparc, Richard Strau ss, Gian Carlo Menotti and Samuel Barber.

Beta Theta Omega (BTQ) presents a Black Panther Themed Talent Show! BTQ will be tabling to sell tickets from 5-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday outside Marty's. This year's proceeds will go to the Luther College Diversity Center Book Fund and Machecheta pre-school, Malawi. The show will take place @ 7 p.m. on March 16 in Marty's. Tickets will be sold for $3 and $5 at the door. For more information email [email protected].

Luther College Piano Quartet will present a program of piano quartets and a piano trio on  Saturday, March 17, at 4 p.m.  in Luther's Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The program will feature works by Gustav Mahler, Paul Schoenfield, and Schumann.

Lab Orchestra, sponsored by FMEA, meets again this Saturday, March 17, from 1-1:30 p.m. in the Jenson Noble Orchestra Room! Come learn a string instrument of your choice (violin, viola, cello, bass), taught by a Lab Orchestra mentor. No experience is necessary and this event is open to students of all majors. Lise Kildegaard and David Kamm will deliver the Paideia Text & Issues lecture, "Turn and Face the Strange: Creative Activity as a Catalyst for Change" on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall. This lecture will focus on the works of art created by David Kamm on display in the Center for Faith and Life. They will explore how art might help us plant, even in unpromising soil, seeds of change. Reception to follow in Qualley Lounge.

Come to Borlaug at 4 p.m. Friday, March 16 to have a career e-chat with Nancy Groves (LC '96 English, French) about her path from Luther to working with Ban Ki-moon and Antonio Guterres as Head of Social Media at the United Nations.
