Cataracts occur in 70 percent of people over the age of 75. Typical age-related cataracts can cause cloudy vision, glare, vision problems, changes in eyeglass prescription and more. Phacoemulsification with implantation of intraocular lenses improves vision in most patients with coexisting cataract and uveitis. However, most existing implants still require glasses after time. A novel lens will be tested at Care for biocompatibility in New Zealand White Rabbits, which may eliminate the need for glasses after cataract surgery.

Wound Healing in Swine
                                          
   
Bl eeding complicates approximately 30% of  surgical procedures.  Medical devices on the market  for tissue ablation often cause damage and make it difficult to isolate tissues and provide hemostatic control. Advances to the current market hemostatic devices have been routinely investigated on Swine at Care and will allow for reduced surgical procedural time, prevention of bleeding complications and  reduction of trauma to the patients.
Implantation of 3D Printed Biomaterials
Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by the thinning of bones , with a consequent tendency to sustain fractures from minor stresses.  It is estimated that approximately one-fourth of the world's population of women over age 60 have some degree of osteoporosis. For these women, fracture is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Care recently developed a novel fracture healing model in goats to evaluate the efficacy of 3D printed biomaterial implants.
