Greetings!
PARISH NEWS for Wednesday, April 24, 2019
  • Many thanks!
Many thanks go to all who helped with the Holy Week and Easter services - the organist and choir, our sextons, the Altar Guild, all who had parts in the services (lectors, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, crucifers) , and the staff for organizing and printing all the bulletins. It was truly a team effort.

  • Facebook
We need to have someone keep up with our Facebook account and to keep it current with pictures and announcements. Interested? Talk with Lisa Heller to see what's involved.

  • Kitchen Cabinets and Rewiring of Ceiling Fixtures
We are very fortunate to have had Jim Elliott and Jerry Stacks working on 4 upper cabinets in the kitchen that were in dire need of repair. They did the tear-out, found a person who could build new cases, installed them, re-hung the doors, and are working on the trim. They are not going to come away from the wall! And David Parker has been continuing the re-wiring of the many fluorescent fixtures on the lower level, so that we can use a much more efficient bulb, and no longer need ballasts. Great job!

  • Rector away
Carol Hancock will be out of town from April 22 - 26. She will be back for next Sunday services.

A Note of Thanks

Many thanks to all who donated candy, those who filled the eggs, and to Dan, Sandy, Lindsay and Gray Jones for hiding the eggs. Shown in photo: Rohan Kumar, son of Denise Bellows and Akshay Kumar, enjoying the Easter Egg Hunt.

Forum Discussion:
Hadewijch of Brabant was a 13th-century poet and mystic who lived in the Duchy of Brabant (central Netherlands today). Her writings in Middle Dutch dialect include divinely-inspired visions, prose letters and poetry. She heavily influenced the thoughts and writings of German theologian Meister Eckart and Flemish mystic John of Ruysbroeck. The focus of Hadewijch's belief system was a concept she labelled “Minne.”   Although Medieval scholars are generally unsure of its meaning, the explanation that enjoys the most support is that minne is her concept of Love as a divine entity. She described this divine Love as an emotional force so powerful that she believed she’d have died had God not given her a special power to withstand it. Hadewijch often stresses that she is "man" (in its collective sense) and that the God of whom she write is also a He. Yet, throughout her writings, she maintains the Love existingt within and from God is a “She.” Hadewijch maintains the divine "He" is not the experience she desires because she longs to be entwined with the "She" (the Love). Many Christians today are trending toward experiential faith, witnessing something so powerful in their lives that they cannot deny the existence of God in our universe. With that in mind, Hadewijch's mysticism espoused a relationship with the divine that was centuries ahead of her time. Her belief also reflects an experiential devotion that does not directly desire God, but the experience of Divine Love that exists within all, and is thus Godly in its own conception because of the gendered distinctions she makes. Through the use of gendered pronouns, Hadewijch also gives judgment-centered agency to both Love and God for they both have the ability to reject the believer due to their own conditions. Hadewijch's mysticism gives agency, dualism, and gender transferal, to her God.

DIOCESE
EASTER MESSAGE FROM BISHOP GOFF
As the first glorious day of Easter moves onward toward night,
May you have the courage of Mary Magdalene who went to the tomb alone in the dark. (John 20:1)
May you have the tenacity of Mary Magdalene who stayed when the others returned to their homes. (John 20:10)
May you have the love of Mary Magdalene who stood at the tomb and wept. (John 20:11)
May you have the audacity of Mary Magdalene who spoke with angels. (John 20:13)
May you have the spunk of Mary Magdalene who wrestled through confusion. (John 20:13 and 15)
May you have the faith of Mary Magdalene who recognized Jesus when he called her name. (John 20:16)
And may you have the commitment of Mary Magdalene, the first apostle to proclaim that Christ is Risen! (John 20:18)
Easter Blessings to you, to all you love, and to this world so hungry for blessings.
Your Sister in Christ,

OPPORTUNITIES
Reminder
Every Wednesday evening, we have a service of Holy Eucharist and healing at 6:00 PM. The service is about 30 minutes. It is a perfect alternative for those who cannot come to church on Sunday mornings, as well as a good spiritual boost in the middle of the week. Come join us!

Hope
Easter is a feast of hope. Not because the resurrection is a nice idea for wishful thinkers, but because God’s promise of life and liberty to all who believe is real. We know that God will keep the Divine Promise and grant us life, liberty and healing, even as we live in the shadow of death.
