Heroes of the Week

Melissa Peña

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Mac and Melissa. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

A Note to Mac Thompson, Athletic Director:
An example of a hero is someone who uses his gifts and passions to glorify the Lord. Mac's longtime love of woodworking inspired him to create a woodshop elective which has expanded over the past two years allowing students to create and develop their passion for making. Mac also added a soccer program for our 7th and 8th graders this year, coaching the boys to a championship. He continues sharing his love and knowledge of soccer in the 3rd-6th grade students by coordinating our Daily Pilot Cup program bringing joy to many of our students. Mac, thanks for all you do to raise up Christian athletes both in your classes and in the athletics program! Keep up the amazing work! In Jesus name we play!

Melissa  Peña, Spanish Teacher:
Shout out to Melissa for doing an amazing job teaching our elementary students Spanish! You make what could be a tough subject to learn fun and engaging! You are a wonderful teacher and an awesome classroom-mate! Way to go Melissa - Heart Chelsea Dogterom

Middle School Chapel with Infusion
This week we welcomed some members of a traveling group called Infusion as our Chapel guests.  This group of 7 young men and women led us in some fun songs, shared their testimonies of how God has radically worked in their lives, and encouraged us to carry the love of Christ everywhere we go!

Shalimar Gathering Friday, May 25th
Save the date for our last Shalimar visit of the year!! What an awesome time we've had being able to enter into the Shalimar community. MCS students have so beautifully and humbly shared the love of Jesus, experienced His love and joy through the community there, learned from, and simply have gotten to know our neighbors just 5 miles away. We've built bridges across cultures and have connected over crafts, Bible studies, games (aka street soccer), and more! It's been amazing to see God at work in everyone's hearts! To come join this last visit, fill out the permission slip and turn it in to Miss Seaman or Miss Peña on or before Wednesday, May 23rd.

We'll meet outside the MCS front office after school on Friday to head over to Shalimar at 3:15pm. We plan to be back at MCS at 6pm. We also utilize parent drivers, so if you are available to drive, please indicate how many students you can take on the permission slip.

Hope your child is able to take part in the amazing work God is doing through the MCS/Shalimar partnership!
PAUSE: A Night of Worship & Reflection for 5th-8th & Alumni Families - June 1st

A message from the 8th Grade ASB Team:

As we approach the end of our time at MCS, the 8th grade students want to create space to PAUSE for an evening of worship, refreshments, connection and reflection. God has used this school to shape us and we want our legacy to be one of expressing gratitude, responding in worship, and stepping out in generosity. All of the proceeds from this night will be donated towards funding the cross in the new auditorium in the Bright Future building project. We cannot imagine a better class gift to leave behind than one that will reflect Jesus. We invite all MCS parents, 5th grade-8th grade students, and alumni students & families to join us for this special evening.

IMPORTANT DETAILS:
  • General Admission only $10:

Middle School Talent Show
The gifts and talents of our middle school student shined brightly last Monday morning at the Middle School Talent Show.  Various acts representing singing, dancing, instrumental solos, card magic, photography, teacher impersonations, and even a percussion ensemble brought the full gamut of emotions to our audience.

Mr. Jones opened and closed the morning reminding us that all talents are gifts that were placed within us by our Heavenly Father, which he has given us to bring glory to His Name and further His Kingdom.  What an impact we can have in our community if we all choose to use our talents to glorify Him!  For more photos, visit our Instagram page @mcs_middleschool_lyfe.
7th Grade Spanish Fieldtrip
7th grade Spanish classes had the opportunity to go to the Piñata District and Olvera Street in Los Angeles and dive into Latin American culture nearby. Students immersed themselves in the experience practicing their Spanish, learning new things, and tasting delicious food from local vendors. It was a blast!

MCS went red, white, and blue for our Patriotic Share2Wear this last Tuesday!  Thank you to all middle school student who shared sunscreen, chapstick, and beach towels for the Shalimar Surf Ministry!  What a blessing for those who are using God's beautiful creation to share Jesus' love with our friends in the Shalimar community!

YWAM Host Homes Needed
Host homes are needed this summer for YWAM (Youth With A Mission) students. If you are interested, please contact Carrie Olson at [email protected]

Accommodations don't need to be fancy - floors, couches, or air mattresses are great! Hosting begins July 1 and ends July 21. 21 Project staff and participants will be kept very busy so you won't need to entertain or provide any transportation. For more information please visit www.21project.com and scroll to the very bottom of the page to find our easy host home application.

This summer YWAM is holding a missionary training school at Vanguard University called 21 Project. Participants will mostly be college students from around the country who are wanting to be trained to be campus missionaries back to their school. They are coming eager to be trained in how to live more like Jesus and to reach the lost and hurting at their university. Most staff are current full-time missionaries with YWAM. Your guests will bring amazing stories of salvations and healings as they share what God is doing in our nation and the countries of the earth. They will be sure to fill you with faith and hope for who God is!
