An Interfaith Social Justice Convening Day
Dear Friends,
With the tragedy in Parkland as a recent reminder of our fragile world
and
lives being taken every day in our nation,
we must come
together and act now for violence prevention and sensible gun laws.
As we saw this weekend, our youth are poised to partner with us and help lead efforts to address and change the gaps in laws that help let the unimaginable happen.
One of the speakers
for our upcoming event will be intimately
addressing the topic and the deeper forces at play.
Jeremy's daughter was tragically killed during the Sandy Hook shootings. He has devoted his life to
understanding and sharing with others the neurobiological and environmental factors associated with violence and
compassion.
With a heightened awareness of violence and intervention on so many people's minds, Jeremy and his presentation are vitally needed.

Interfaith Social Justice Convening Day Speaker
Jeremy Richman, Ph.D.
and Avielle Foundation
Co-Founder
Jeremy Richman, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist with extensive research experience that spans the range from neuroscience to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity and kidney disease. He has worked in the academic and drug discovery research areas for nearly three decades and is passionate about helping people live happier and healthier lives.
Dr. Richman is dedicated to reaching out and educating youth and believes that our future relies on their imaginations. This is manifest through his teaching of biology, neuroscience, martial arts and rock climbing to children and teens for the past 25 years.
In 2012, Dr. Richman and his wife Jennifer's beautiful 6 year old daughter, Avielle,was killed in the Sandy Hook School shootings. This tragedy motivated Dr. Richman to refocus his research and life's passion to better understanding the neurobiological and environmental factors associated with violence and compassion.
Towards this end, Jeremy and Jennifer (Hensel) co-founded the Avielle Foundation which is committed to preventing violence, building compassion though brain health research, community engagement and education. The Avielle Foundation expresses their passionate belief that it is critical to empower youth to advocate for themselves and their peers when it comes to brain health and brain illnesses.
Dr. Richman serves as the CEO of the
Avielle Foundation
as well as holding a Faculty Lecturer appointment at Yale's Department of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine.

Sisters of Social Service Community, in partnership with our lead sponsor NETWORK, invite you to our Interfaith Social Justice Convening Day.
This event is for all those who care deeply about social justice and who are passionate about challenging
the great inequalities being created by our current political realities.
We invite you to join us for this engaging day devoted to social justice actions and collaborations. This event will give everyone the opportunity to learn, reflect,
network, create potential collaboration, and share effective action strategies for making personal and organizational responses to urgent issues. We hope our convening will also build a community of solidarity in which we can strengthen how we can, together, put faith into action.
