More Than $635,000 awarded at  
2018 Grant Reception
 
The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region announced a total of more than $637,290 in new grants to 43 non-profit community agencies at a reception at Ballou Recreation Center on January 24. The Community Foundation was incorporated in 1996 and has already returned more than $22.6 million in community grants and scholarships. Sixth Round of Grants Distributed from
The Fund for Halifax County
 
The Fund for Halifax County has awarded its sixth round of grants, thanks to the work of the Halifax County Advisory Committee. The committee consists of a few prominent members of Halifax County who wish to see the county grow and prosper.

After carefully reviewing the applications received, the committee chose to award The Good Samaritan $500 to support fuel/utilities/housing assistance for citizens of Halifax County and Main Street United Methodist Church $500 to purchase food for the Jane Jones Food Pantry. The committee also chose to award the South Boston Medical Fund in the amount of $900 to the Halifax County Cancer Association.  Checks were presented at each organization's location on January 25.

Four New Scholarship Funds   
 
The Community Foundation has four new scholarships, totaling 50 scholarship funds.

The Lawrence R Dabbs Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 to provide scholarships for Caswell County high school graduates.
 
The Fairview United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 for members of Fairview United Methodist Church who demonstrate a devotion to academics, or are otherwise talented, and who have a need for financial support.

The Ruby Sartin Hovatter Educator Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 for graduates from George Washington High School or Bartlett Yancey High School who plan to become a classroom teacher. 
 
The Tunstall Academic Boosters Scholarship Fund was established in 2017 for the top students graduating from Tunstall High School. 
 
Donations can be made to any of these funds at any time and t hey can be made in honor or in memory of a loved one.  
   
Scholarship Cycle Now Open  
 
The Community Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications.  The deadline is Wednesday, February 28th.  All applications must be submitted online. To begin your application, please click here.

cifi c scholarships.  Some of our scholarships are automatically matched through the general application while others require additional information.

Reminders! 

~The Autism Education Fund and Keokee Fund will be accepting applications until February 20th. Be thinking about any projects for which you wish to apply. 
The Keokee Fund's purpose it to support the education of academically gifted students.  
The Autism Education Fund's purpose is to support autism education-related programs or organizations benefiting individuals, families, educators and the community .
