General Presbyter Jackie Taylor offers
an Easter Message:

One Saturday, while housecleaning, I turned  on one of those home shopping channels. S oon I was listening to  a chatty host explain why I needed a particular garment.  At first her voice was background noise, but within minutes, I was glued to the screen listening intently to the casual, yet compelling presentation. It wasn't long before I was reaching for my laptop to place an order.

What did this woman say to separate me from my money? How did I become convinced? What is in any message that causes us to act, change, support or show up? There could be many psychological factors in play but the simplest explanation is: someone said something!

Thank God for leaks! If not, we might never know about Christ's ultimate victory over death. Somebody, somewhere told the whole story despite the women's silence. Somebody spoke up during the civil rights movement. Someone made some noise this weekend to spark an epic march to address gun violence. Someone told YOU about the saving power of Jesus Christ and His Resurrection on Easter morning.

Not all of us are preachers, activists o r speech makers. But we can all tell a neighbor about our congregation. We can quote a line in a sermon to a friend and most important, we can live like Easter Sunday makes a difference in our lives, giving and ministries. One by one, we can move the church from being "background noise" in our society, to being in the forefront of relationship building, community and social change. Surely our message is more compelling than a shopping channel - and if not - we have work to do!

So, after your Sunday sermon or your response, "He is Risen Indeed", what else are you going to say about your church and about your faith? How are you going to overcome your fear of the unknown and step outside of your church door and offer the gift of hospitality? What compelling message will you bring to encourage one to act, change, support or show up? Looking forward to finding out!!

Blessings,

If you did not receive the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering on Palm Sunday, you may receive it this week on Easter. The OGHS is the greatest giving bargain in PCUSA! The one offering supports three phenomenal ministries: Presbyterian Disaster AssistancePresbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development of People. When you give to OGHS, you are assisting in the empowerment of others as they move past physical, emotional, spiritual and/or other misfortunes and challenges. You can be a springboard for the beginning of their resilience. Although there are designated days for donations, they are accepted and useful at anytime and your thoughtfulness and generosity will be greatly appreciated.

The Center has a couple of weeks that are still open for Summer 2018

We're opening two weeks for local youth to do a week of day trips. The first will be July 16-20 in Annapolis at the STAIR Literacy Camp. The second will be July 30-August 3 in Baltimore at the Woodbourne McCabe VBS. Members of the Center's staff will be on site each day to lead a devotion and debrief, and to serve alongside volunteers. It'll be a great way for young people to learn and serve in their city (and maybe complete school service hour requirements). Please help us spread the word! Contact McKenna Lewellen for details.
