On behalf of the Collective STEP for Youth team, we would like to thank all those who attended Connecting Hope: Uniting for Youth. We would like to extend our appreciation and gratitude to the planning committee members, speakers, trainers, exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers. Two hundred and fifty-two attendees were able to experience an energizing performance by Drum Cafe, a captivating keynote presentation by Calvin Terrell, informative breakout sessions, a lunch activity by PSA Art Awakenings, an inspiring closing keynote from Jessica Rubio. Participants were also able to network with local exhibitors, youth-serving professionals and enjoy art created by youth. A summit attendee said, "What a pleasure and honor it was to take part in the STEP Conference. I cannot thank you enough for creating this opportunity for community connection. It was a superbly executed and organized event." The attendees presence helped to make this event a great success and their enthusiasm and positive energy ensured the time together productive and educational.

Autism Society of Greater Phoenix, Arizona Rehabilitation Services Administration, and Rio Salado College will host the Sensory Friendly Autism Job Fair & Workshops for Adults with ASD (and their parent/Job Coach if desired) on April 10 from 1:00-4:45pm at Rio Salado College, 3320 S. Price Rd, Tempe, 85282. Participants will meet with prospective employers individually. There will also be opportunities to meet with provider agencies. Autism Society of Greater Phoenix will host the West Valley Transition Expo on April 30 from 5:00-7:00pm at Peoria Community Center, 8335 W Jefferson St., Peoria, AZ. This is a great opportunity to learn about services, programs, and other opportunities for teens and young adults on the autism spectrum. Mercy Care/Mercy Maricopa recently held some community forums around new funding for opioid abuse. If you were unable to attend one of the community forums regarding opioid funding addressing six questions about how the remaining $8 million in funding should be spent, a survey has been put together for you and your colleagues. The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) on behalf of the Office of Epidemiology is soliciting responses to conduct community health assessment services for specific subpopulations in Maricopa County as part of the Coordinated Maricopa County Community Health Needs Assessment (CCHNA) project. The maximum amount available for this project at this time is $120,000. Additional funding may become available in the future for further expansion of the scope of work. All work must be completed by December 1, 2019. Interested candidates must submit their response here in order to be reviewed. Full details can be found here. Communities Joined in Action (CJA) is accepting applications for the CJA Health Innovation Lab. It is a year-long, virtual lab that will teach participants how to think innovatively and propel a program or initiative forward. This blog addresses the research done with youth in foster care and juvenile justice systems. System-involved youth who have experienced chronic trauma, abuse/neglect, and family dysfunction may face mental health and substance abuse challenges and struggles with serious behavioral problems and school failure, all factors found to increase adolescent sexual risk-taking behavior and unintended pregnancy. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health (OASH) announced on January 12, 2018 the Anticipated Availability of Funds for Support for Expectant and Parenting Teens, Women, Fathers, and Their Families (AH-SP1-18-001).
