TOGETHER WE CAN!
Note from the Principal
Happy October!

In spite of the uncertainty that COVID has presented, the school year is off to a great start! We hope that your family has been able to settle comfortably into the routines of being back in school. Our students are making new friends, getting to know their teachers, and learning the new routines of their classrooms or their virtual learning environments. They are reviewing and practicing skills to help them move forward with new grade level curriculum and building endurance to work hard while they are here. Whether we are working in the face-to-face or virtual environment, it is truly a pleasure to be back in the “kid business”.

We would like to thank you for your patience as we work through the beginning of the year routines. We know that the pick-up and drop-off lines can be a challenge and waiting for the transfer buses from the other schools can be cumbersome, but as time passes and everyone figures out the “dos and don’ts”, the system sort of naturally falls into place. It is easy to see that Cook Street and Madison Street are extremely busy during our pick-up and drop-off times. Please check your mirrors and watch the area closely. Little bodies can be hard to see, especially as the more snowy months fall upon us. If you park and walk to deliver or gather your child, PLEASE USE THE CROSSWALK to cross the road. We work very hard to reinforce safety practice with our students. We love it when we have adult role models to demonstrate those practices.

While we really miss our parent volunteers and special visitors, we also appreciate your understanding as we ask you to give your farewell smooches and hugs at the door. It does support our COVID safety practices, but more so, it really lays a foundation for independence. With very little need for help, our students can confidently enter the building and get ready for the start of their day. They are amazing little thinkers and problem solvers! J
One final reminder as the new school year moves forward. If your plans change, requiring your child to go home in a manner that is different from the norm, please be sure to contact the office as soon as possible, preferably before 3:15. Due to the end of the day procedures, it is often hard to get information to the child before dismissal. This can also cause confusion for the child and can cause delays for our buses.

We feel privileged to have the opportunity to watch your child grow and truly enjoy being an active part in their learning. We look forward to sharing their success at Parent/Teacher Conferences at the end of the month (October 29th and 30th). Please feel free to stop in or call if we can be of help in any way.

TOGETHER WE CAN!

Social Media, the Internet, and
Your Child's Safety

Frequent discussions with your child about online safety and their online lives
can have a major influence on a child's behavior.

Interact! is an online, interactive, e-course created for parents and guardians to complete with their children, with the goal of sparking basic online safety discussions in the home. This 30 minute module provides parents with the opportunity to review their own tech use to set a good online example; interactive activities to complete alongside their children; and follow-up resources and activities to keep the discussions going. Be your child’s trusted adult. Interact! and stay safe!

The Interact! program was created by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Reminder Face Coverings Are Required at School
Governor Tony Evers issued Executive Order, requiring every individual, age five and older, in Wisconsin to wear a face covering when indoors or in an enclosed space, other than at a private residence. Children between the ages of 2 and 5 are encouraged to wear a face covering when physical distancing is not possible.

As a result of this Executive Order, Lake Geneva Schools will require face coverings for all staff and students (Preschool - 12th Grade).

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS A MASK DAILY.
Parent & Student Reminders

Limit Non-Essential Visitors
In an effort to protect the health and safety of our community, only essential visitors will be allowed on school campuses to minimize the number of people on-site. Parents picking up/dropping off are encouraged to use pickup/drop off zones. No outside guests will be allowed to visit classrooms or cafeterias. All efforts will be made to keep necessary visitors to a minimum. If a parent needs to deliver an essential item to their student during the school day, please call the school office prior to arriving to make the necessary arrangements.

Most meetings with families will take place virtually unless an in-person meeting is necessary. Parents meeting on-site with school staff must follow social-distancing guidelines and must wear face coverings.

Lake Geneva Schools will not allow food delivery and/or parents dropping off take out food for students for the 2020-2021 school year. Please plan on sending a packed lunch with your student in the morning or purchasing school-provided lunches.

MORNING DROP OFF INFORMATION:
Just a reminder that you may NOT drop your student off before 8:30 am. There is no student supervision before that time. We encourage all families to use our drop off zone located on Cook Street or Madison Street. No parent will be allowed to walk their student to class.

PICK-UP and BUS CHANGE INFORMATION:
If you are picking up your child for an appointment during the day, a parent or guardian needs to call the office at 262-348-4000, send a note with the student or write on your child's communication card to let us know. If there is a change to the way your child is going home at the end of the day, a parent or guardian will need to send a note or call the office before 3:15 p.m.

If there is a change to your child's normal bus routine, we require a note or a phone call by a parent or guardian to the school, 262-348-4000, to make that change. Please do so before 3:15 p.m.

PLANNED ABSENCE REQUEST
If you are planning a vacation or a trip and your child will be out of school for three or more days, please complete a Planned Absence Request. Please call the Central-Denison office at 262-348-4000 for a form, complete and the Principal will approve.
Don't forget about the Daily At-Home Health Check: https://bit.ly/3jFUlMU

Please complete it daily prior to sending your student to school. It is vital to ask the questions on the checklist each and every day to prevent the possibility of exposing other students or staff. This checklist is to be filled out at home, daily on the honor system. It is not required to be handed into the school.

If you answer yes to any of the questions on the checklist:
- Keep your student home.
- Let the school office know the questions which were answered yes.
- Follow the appropriate guidelines for when to return to school: https://bit.ly/3hTRvU3
