Work or Play?

Fires have always been commonplace here on the Prairie.  Before farmers moved in, fires were nature's way of cleansing the ecosystem and getting rid of pests, disease and invasive species.  Now fires are controlled and used to restore diversity and clean out an area.

After first moving out here from the city, I recall driving toward a huge plume of smoke, expecting to see a house fire, but instead came upon a controlled burn on the side of the road.  Before that day, the use of fire by farmers was never something that had crossed my mind.

This week at Millner, Don (can you spot him in the above photo?) and Phil spent about an hour to burn the culvert around the old pond.  It had become overgrown with old weeds and needed a restart.  Phil's comment was, "Is it still work if you're having fun?"  I'm not sure the answer, but we are #thefunwinery, after all.

We will are open Thursday through Sunday for tastings, tours and fun.   If you are coming with a party of more than 10, or would like to reserve our tasting room outside of regular business hours (parties of 30 or more), we would love to hear from you.

We are already booking weddings and events for 2019.  I would love to show you around and help you dream of the many possibilities in our unique venue.  Call me today to book a tour!
