ART SUPPLY OUTREACH TO SYRIAN REFUGEES
|
|
Over the past year, St. Paul's has been supporting the Syrian Refugee Mission of the North Shore. Recent news indicates that due to the extended war in Syria, now in its seventh year, too many children are
experiencing post traumatic disorder along with severe anxiety and fear. Health aid
workers inside Syria are finding that art therapy techniques, such as drawing and painting have been helpful.
We are collecting backpacks, tote bags and supplies
to fill them. Some ideas include:
D
rawing paper, individual notebooks or sketchbooks
Set of mandala patterns for coloring
pencils, erasers and pencil sharpeners
fine art postcards
Coloring Books for older individuals
crayons, markers or colored pencils
colored chalk
oil pastels
scissors, rulers and glue sticks
tissue paper
self-hardening clay
water paints and water color trays
yarn
packages of plain white paper
Not ALL items need to go in a back pack! Ocean State Job Lot is a great source for inexpensive art supplies...probably other stores as well. Please bring in your donations and place them in the bin located in the Fellowship Hall.

You will find prayer request cards located in several baskets at St. Paul's (by the entry doors and in the Fellowship Hall).
Thirteen parishioners of St. Paul's will be making our "Camino"; walking the last 100 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago in Spain in honor of St. James from June 4
th
- June 16
th
. As we make this religious pilgrimage, it would be our privilege to carry with us your prayers in addition to our own. If you would like for us to pray for you, your loved ones, or any situation of concern, please write it on the cards, and place in the envelope outside the Parish Office (look for the Camino shell). We will carry these prayers with us and will pray for you and your concerns as we visit churches along the Camino.

ST. PAUL'S BOOK CLUB
|
|
With a good number of our readers on the pilgrimage in early June, we have moved our June discussion to
Wednesday,
June 27 at 7 PM
in the
Rectory. Our next book will be:
Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI
by David Grann
.
In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage
Indian nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, they rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe.
Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a prime target. Her relatives were shot and poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more and more members of the tribe began to die under
mysterious circumstances. In this last remnant of the Wild West-where oilmen like J. P. Getty made their fortunes and where desperadoes like Al Spencer, the "Phantom
Terror," roamed-many of those who dared to investigate the killings were themselves murdered. As the death toll climbed to more than twenty-four, the FBI took up the case. It was one of the organization's first major homicide investigations and the bureau badly bungled the case. In desperation, the young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White to unravel the mystery. White put together an
undercover team, including one of the only American Indian agents in the bureau. The agents infiltrated the region, struggling to adopt the latest techniques of detection. Together with the Osage they began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.
In
Killers of the Flower Moon,
David Grann revisits a shocking series of crimes in which dozens of people were murdered in cold blood. Based on years of research and startling new evidence, the book is a masterpiece of narrative nonfiction, as each step in the investigation reveals a series of sinister secrets and reversals. But more than that, it is a searing indictment of the callousness and prejudice toward American Indians that allowed the murderers to operate with impunity for so long.
Killers of the Flower Moon
is utterly compelling, but also emotionally devastating.

We remember, O Lord, all those who have served in our Armed Forces and commend them to you for their bravery, their patriotism, and their honor. We ask that those who serve our country today may be kept in your everlasting love and that comfort and encouragement might be given to their families. We pray for peace and ask that your holy will might prevail among all people, and your name be exalted forever.
We pray for those who have died, especially LTJG Ernest H. Greppin, III in whose memory the flowers on the altar are given this Sunday, and Horace & Helen Jones, Joseph Lees Jones, and Joy Jones Marsh,
