Greetings!

For this issue we again employed data from Worldometers. Although there has been a spike in cases in some countries in Europe, which we review in this issue, the U.S. continues to have the greatest number of total cases and deaths. On Sept. 28, 2020 in the U.S., there were 32,837 new cases (7,394,448 total cases): 740 deaths and the total deaths have reached 210,548. In comparison, in Italy there were 1,648 new cases (313,011 total cases) and 24 deaths (35,875 total); in France, 8,051 new cases (550,690 total cases) and 85 deaths; (31,893 total) in Germany – 1,848 new cases (290,466 total cases) and 11 deaths (9,556 total deaths); the United Kingdom had 7,143 new cases (446,156 total cases), 71 deaths, increasing their Covid-19 death total to 42,072.

In the first block we link to a new source, Euronews that in text and links offers a review of “Coronavirus second wave.” CNBC offers us "Top News" that informs us that "from curfews to calling in the army, here’s what Europe is doing to tackle its coronavirus surge. The NY Times reports that “As virus cases surge in Europe, hospitalizations lag. Your curators are always looking for a top-tier panel to help us understand where we are today and where we are headed. The folks at G-Zero-Signal Media and Microsoft “gathered global experts to discuss global recovery from the coronavirus pandemic in: "Crisis response and recovery: Reimagining while rebuilding.”

Coronavirus second wave: Which countries in Europe are experiencing a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases?

CNBC's "Top News:"
From curfews to calling in the army, here's what Europe is doing to tackle its coronavirus surge.

As virus cases surge in Europe, hospitalizations lag. But for how long? For now, countries are betting they can suppress hospital admissions and deaths without imposing more lockdowns, even as case numbers approach peak levels from last spring.
An organizational chart for Operation Warp Speed, obtained by StatNews, reveals a highly structured initiative in which military personnel vastly outnumber civilian scientists.

A layperson’s guide to how — and when — a Covid-19 vaccine could be authorized. The process of deciding when a vaccine appears to be safe and effective isn’t as straightforward as the general public might believe.

On Sept. 23, GZERO Media — in partnership with Microsoft and Eurasia Group — gathered global experts to discuss recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

The panel for the discussion "Crisis response and recovery: Reimagining while rebuilding," includes: Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, and Ian Bremmer, president and founder of Eurasia Group, among others.

Susan Glasser, staff writer and Washington columnist for The New Yorker, moderates the panel. Special appearances are made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, European Central Bank chief Christine Lagarde, and shockingly optimistic comedian/host Trevor Noah. Enjoy.
