This month Rachell Arteaga interviewed Barbara McCormack, Vice President of Education for Newseum.
NewseumED.org gives students, teachers and lifelong learners who can't visit Washington free access to the Newseum's vast collections. The site's content is copyright-cleared for use in the classroom, giving teachers worry-free access to quality, non-partisan resources for teaching media literacy, history, and the First Amendment. Since the website's launch in October 2015, nearly 500,000 unique visitors - from all 50 states and 175 countries - have explored their resources and interactives.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED FOR 22x20 CAMPAIGN
The Lamp
has formally launched the
website for its 22x20 campaign
which seeks to activate and facilitate youth voice and leadership in the democratic process among the 22 million teens who will turn 18 by the 2020 election by empowering youth with nonpartisan media literacy skills to consume, critique and respond to political messages.

Young people's voices are at the heart of American Creed, and organizations like the National Writing Project and Facing History and Ourselves have teamed up with PBS and Citizen Film to create extensive classroom resources and curriculum designed to get students talking about these vital issues.

New resource from Center for Media Literacy:
Pediatrics
featured a comprehensive Supplement on Children and Screens in November 2017 (Volume 140/Issue Supplement 2), with articles by leading researchers.
A Working Group on Digital and Media Literacies, co-chaired by Kristen Hawley Turner and Tessa Jolls, from the Center for Media Literacy, contributed a paper making policy and research recommendations, called "Developing Digital and Media Literacies in Children and Adolescents."
The paper was co-authored by Turner, Jolls, Michelle Shira hagerman, William O'Byrne, Troy Hicks, Bobbie Eisenstock and Kristine E. Pytash. The complete article and supplement, with topics such as "Digital Media, Anxiety and Depression in Children" and "Digital Life and Benefits and Costs of Social Media in Adolescence," can be found at:

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
The Engagement Lab at Emerson College is accepting applications for its Master of Arts degree program Civic Media: Art and Practice (CMAP
)
for fall 2018. The priority deadline to apply is March 1st, 2018 after which students will be accepted on a rolling basis.
The core experience and outcomes of the 12-month CMAP program are centered around thesis projects that highlight the relationship of media, art, and practice and explore a wide range of approaches to the art & design of civic media, including participatory digital campaigns, mobile apps, public art installations, interactive curriculums, and virtual platforms. These projects bring to life the theories and practices that CMAP students explore in coursework.
Past graduates of CMAP currently work in various job sectors and organizations where they apply the skills and knowledge gained from the program, including the Obama Foundation, Global Family Research Project, Harvard Kennedy School, and more.
Accepted Students day will be held on April 28th, 2018.
