HOPE workshop panels at OACCA and OFCA conferences
Coming soon to a conference near you! HOPE and Succeed Parent Partners will participate on workshop panels at both the OACCA and OFCA conferences. They will share their stories and discuss issues related to parent engagement including opioids, relationships with caregivers, and trauma. HOPE has submitted proposals to additional conferences, so stay tuned for more opportunities to explore parent engagement.

Registration open for OACCA spring conference
Registration is now open for OACCA’s spring conference, Community Collaboration, scheduled for May 1-2 at the Dublin Embassy Suites Hotel in Columbus. This year’s theme will focus on how community agencies can collaborate to address problems, including the opiate crisis and prevalence of childhood trauma. A special presentation on the Family First Act and impact on Ohio will be presented by John Sciamanna, Vice President of the Child Welfare League of America. OhioMHAS Director Tracy Plouck, former ODADAS Director Orman Hall, and ODJFS Deputy Director Carla Carpenter will be among the conference’s speakers. Over 20 CEU-eligible workshops will be offered on various topics including Myers-Briggs, Bridges, secondary trauma, social work ethics, managed care, quality improvement, accreditation, and volunteer management. Ohio’s Practice Profiles webinar series
The Statewide CQI Community Subcommittee has developed a series of Practice Profile webinars to help public and private agency staff improve fundamental social work practice skills. The new monthly webinar series focuses on Ohio’s Practice Profiles (JFS 08301). The profiles describe 10 core behaviors that guide best casework practice: engaging, assessing, partnering, planning, implementing, evaluating, advocating, demonstrating cultural and diversity competence, communicating, and collaborating. In addition, the subcommittee is seeking approval to offer 1 Social Worker continuing education unit (CEU) per webinar. Although the webinars are presented as a series and will build upon similar concepts, each module has been designed to be a stand-alone topic, and participants may choose to attend one or multiple webinars. Ohio's 2018 Opiate Conference: Strengthening Ohio's Communities
Join Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities for its ninth annual opiate conference, Ohio’s 2018 Opiate Conference: Strengthening Ohio’s Communities. Hosted by OACBHA in partnership with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, this year’s conference will take place Jun. 11-12 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus. Ohio’s 2018 opiate conference will bring 1,200 attendees from Ohio and the surrounding region for two full days of education related to the opiate epidemic. The adoptive families of three former foster children filed a federal class action law suit against Warren County March 14, claiming through their attorney that the county denied them "vital financial support" after the adoptions.
The individual pinwheels are designed to create public awareness of children involved in a report of abuse or neglect in Tuscarawas County.

As the state's opioid crisis deepened, CommQuest Services found itself treating more and more pregnant women who were using heroin and similar drugs. Not only do expectant mothers who use opioids risk a fatal overdose, children born to opioid-addicted mothers can endure severe withdrawal symptoms and long hospital stays. So, when a pregnant woman who is using opioids contacts one of CommQuest's centers in Canton, Massillon or Alliance, the race is on to get her stabilized on medication within 24 hours.
Summit County Children Services is urging people to wear blue on April 11 to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The child welfare agency says it received more than 10,000 calls regarding the safety and well-being of children last year.
