April is National Poetry Month, and we are celebrating! We'll be hosting three different poetry events during the month (and even into May!), so you can experience live poetry readings and meet the poets. We are also inviting all kids (18 years of age and under) to submit their own poetry for our very first Poetry Contest For Kids! We will award prizes in the following categories: Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. All submissions are due by Sunday, April 15th, and all entrants and their friends and families are invited to attend our poetry celebration on Independent Bookstore Day, April 28th, at 2:00 PM, when the winners will receive their prizes. Kick off National Poetry Month with three exciting poets as they read selections from their newest publications. Heather Bryant, Catherine Stearns, and Lynne Viti will be presenting, and they promise to share their love for poetry and sign copies of their books.

Meg Wolitzer wowed us with her best-selling novel
The Interestings, and now she unveils her epic new book
The Female Persuasion at a must-attend event. Friday, April 6th, 7:00 PM at Wilson Middle School, Natick.
Cecile Richards -- president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America for more than a decade and featured speaker at the Women's March on Washington -- presents her memoir, Make Trouble, in conversation with Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu. Richards shines a light on the people and lessons that have gotten her through good times and bad, and encourages readers to take risks, make mistakes, and make trouble along the way. Please note that this is a ticketed event. Your $32 ticket includes a copy of the book.

Join four terrific picture book authors -- Gaia Cornwall, Alison Goldberg, Jannie Ho, and Gina Perry -- for a combined author reading, signing, and story time. There will also be art projects and other fun activities for kids, so join the fun!

This debut is listed as Young Adult, but almost anyone can admire the beautiful writing and emotional pull of this magical realist novel. On the day Leigh gets her first kiss, she also discovers her mother's body after her suicide. When she begins spotting a mysterious red bird, she is certain it is her mother attempting to get Leigh to understand her past so that her spirit can move on to the next world. If you like John Green, Celeste Ng, or Isabel Allende, you will love this fantastic novel.
Tangerine by Christine Mangan
Alice and Lucy were roommates at Bennington College. Their relationship, intense and mysterious, changed after a tragic accident. Now they are reunited in Tangier, where Alice has moved with her husband. Shades of The Talented Mr. Ripley are evident in this very good psychological thriller with the heat and beauty of Morocco in the background.
Andrea leaves Nebraska and her small-minded family when she moves to edgy 1990's Portland, Oregon, where she finds a queer community which finally gives her a sense of belonging. Life gets more complicated when she discovers that even that group has its limits, particularly when Andrea finds herself drawn to a straight white male drummer. Man, is this book weird -- my kind of weird. Beautiful illustrations pair with loopy text about a literal baby monkey-turned-detective whose only shortcoming as a private eye is his inability to get dressed properly. (Let's face it, putting on your pants is kind of the worst.)
Great for beginning readers who want a big-kid book.
Hamilton And Peggy! by L.M. Elliott
L.M. Elliott has once again taken a fascinating woman from the sidelines of history, and brought her front and center. Peggy Schuyler was so much more than simply "...and Peggy". She was whip smart, charming, fearless, fiercely loyal, and socialized with the great leaders of her day. Well researched and full of fun cameos and Hamilton references, this is not to be missed!

We met Ray, a four year old chihuahua mix when he visited the Used Book Cellar recently and we admired his cool jacket. He enjoys taking long walks, as long as it is not snowing. He does not enjoy the snow! He also prides himself on his squirrel-chasing abilities.
