Greetings!
Two things come to mind this month as, unbelievably, we near the end of another year.
First, with statewide elections happening in a few days, we'd like to remind every person how important their vote is. Please remember to go to the polls on Tuesday, November 7th. Locally, in addition to our trustees who are running, we will be voting on school board members. Also, the Big Walnut Schools and Preservation Parks are asking for our support. See the article below if you have questions regarding the election or issues.
And here's an interesting fact; less than 150 years ago, rural folks didn't always "go to" the poll; the election came to them. Recently, a township resident discovered a wooden box in a relative's basement. The box contained a letter, explaining that it was an original Ballot Box from Kingston Township, our closest neighbor to the north. In the late 1800's, at election time, the box was carried on horseback from home to home so folks in the country could cast their vote. The box was then returned to officials who opened it and counted the votes. Finding this box was an interesting peek into the past. The resident has donated the box to Kingston Township for their historical collection.
Second, we'd like you to know that as trustees, we take the future of Berkshire Township very seriously. We are constantly examining what is happening in our area and working hard to plan for the future. From transportation, to improved economic opportunities for businesses, to creating a Master Plan for Parks, Trails and Recreation facilities for our residents - we don't stop. Working to find ways to steer growth in Berkshire Township in a responsible, healthy, financially sound way is a 24/7 job - and we appreciate your trust in us as we strive for excellence everyday. Thanks for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Rod Myers, Bill Holtry and Mike Dattilo, Township Trustees

Need info on local issues, too? Or where to go to vote?
Below is your link to the Delaware County Board of Elections home page. There you will find where to vote, local issues, etc. You can even view a sample ballot based on your address so you can research local elections and issues before heading to the polls.

Berkshire Community Park Update
|
Trees? Yes, Please!
Creating a park in what was once an open field requires foresight and planning. This week, twelve large, beautiful trees were planted in our new park. Stop by, when you can, and see what a difference they already make. Then picture how magnificent they'll be in 15-20 years! Exciting!

SAFETY WARNING
Recently, several residents in the southern part of the township experienced problems with thieves. Cars parked in their driveways were burglarized during the night. Even though we live in a quiet, country setting, safety officials remind us it's a good practice to lock your vehicles, homes and garages, especially at night.

2017-2018 TRASH AND RECYCLE COLLECTION CALENDAR
We encourage you to always collect your empty cans on Fridays as high winds may cause them to blow over into the road, creating a traffic hazard. (It keeps our streets and neighborhoods looking nicer, too.)
Please contact REPUBLIC WASTE at 800-601-1867 or at the number on your invoice if you have any questions or issues with your service.
New to the township? Republic Waste is the single authorized trash hauler for Berkshire residents, so please call them to subscribe and be sure to tell them
you are on the Berkshire Township contract.
