Community Awareness Program Now Includes Training for First Responders!

Designed for law enforcement personnel, emergency first responders and firefighters, NJCTS' new community awareness program strives to bring awareness of TS, associated disorders and symptoms to those responsible for public safety.

Participants r eview the implications of TS and how it may impact an individual's actions in a high stress situation. They also l earn de-escalation techniques and how to respond to the typical TS behaviors, even the swearing and  anger, to avoid further confrontation.

Another component of the program is a medical ID card for those with TS to keep in their wallet or car so they can provide it to first responders and law enforcement. These will soon be avaliable from NJCTS.

In response to one training, Middlesex County Presecutor Andrew C. Carey said, "I sincerely thank you for all of your efforts in making our Crisis Intervention Training held at our police training center a great success. It is only through cooperation between law enforcement, health care professionals, and our community partners that we will continue to make strides towards protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of every one of our citizens, as well as our first responders. The feedback from the participants has been excellent."

Effective immediately, New Jersey will allow five more medical conditions -- anxiety, migraines, Tourette syndrome, and chronic musculoskeletal and visceral pain -- to be eligible for marijuana prescriptions.
