"Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results."   Could General George S. Patton get things done?

This Tidbit refers to the outstanding job performed by the MO-ACHE officers and committee/council chairs who have all "hit the ground running."  Benchmarking has produced best practices for your Missouri ACHE chapter.

There has been a lot going on with your Missouri statewide chapter of the ACHE.   This message will give some of the details with the following clickable links to informational documents.  One initiative is the new name and rebranding with Mission, Vision, and Values. The rebranding achieved a 2016 Multi-Year Strategic Plan goal.  To implement the name change the MOHEG Board of Directors approved revised bylaws on January 20, 2017.   Your volunteer MO-ACHE Board of Directors is available to chapter members for any communications intended for the good of the cause.  The 14-member board composition is structured so that everyone has specific duties.

Below is a summary version:
  • President David Baltzer; overall responsibility and liaison with ACHE
  • President-Elect Ron Present; strategic planning
  • Secretary Bryant McNally; board minutes and record keeping
  • Treasurer Tom Saggio; financial accounting and Finance Committee Chair
  • Immediate Past President Roma Nemani; Nominating Committee Chair
  • ACHE Regent Janet Weckenborg (Elect, Katie Nowak), liaison with ACHE
  • Communications Committee Chair Jennifer Bjelich, newsletter and web site
  • Membership Committee Chair Jon Vitiello, engagement and advancement
  • Sponsorship Committee Chair Jim Brophy, fund raising
  • Central MO LPC Chair Krystin Cooper, education programs and networking
  • KC MO LPC Chair Kristi Baker, education programs and network with Kansas
  • Southeast MO LPC Chair Jason Schrumpf, education programs and networking
  • Southwest MO LPC Chair Chris Breite, education programs and networking
  • St. Louis LPC Chair Brett Moorehouse, education programs and networking

On behalf of all 1,024 members of MO-ACHE, I express my sincerest appreciation to the 2017 Board of Directors for your diligent work to fulfill the chapter mission "To advance our members and healthcare leadership excellence."  The MO-ACHE Board of Directors expresses deep appreciation to the chapter members who comprise the 5 committees and 5 councils!  The Board also thanks the many professionals who give their valuable time to serve on panels to present education programs!  And we note the faithful guidance provided for more than 18 years by the chapter management company, Q&A Business Solutions.

Janet K. Weckenborg, FACHE  and David J. Baltzer, RN, LFACHE

The MO-ACHE Board of Directors welcomes ACHE Missouri Regent-Elect Katherine (Katie) L. Nowak, FACHE to the chapter board.  Katie is Vice President, Informatics and Business Support Care Management for Mercy corporately.  Katie will be installed during the 2017 ACHE Congress on Leadership.  The Board extends sincerest thanks and best wishes to current ACHE Missouri Regent Janet K. Weckenborg, FACHE whose 3-year term concludes with the 2017 Congress.  Janet has been an outstanding champion of ACHE and Chapter Mission, Vision, and Values.  She has served diligently as an ex-officio voting member of the chapter Board of Directors and Nominating Committee, by bringing national perspective to many important local initiatives.  We know that Janet will continue to be a source of inspiration to ACHE members in Missouri and nationally by continuing to promote professional healthcare leadership excellence!  Please share your appreciation with Janet and join in welcoming Katie!

MO-ACHE has been approved as an official Training Agency by the Missouri Board of Nursing Home Administrators (BNHA) effective February 8, 2017.  ACHE had already been approved as a Training Agency for certain pre-authorized educational programs, i.e. Congress on Leadership.  MO-ACHE will apply for prior approval of certain educational programs conducted in Missouri as a convenience to Missouri Licensed Nursing Home administrators who need CEUs for license renewal.  Certificates of Completion for "in-seat" courses will be provided by MO-ACHE and reported to the BNHA.  MO-ACHE offers this added benefit in recognition of the importance of the full continuum of health care services delivery and the demographics of an aging population.

Thomas C. Dolan, PH.D., FACHE

Thomas (Tom) C. Dolan, PH.D., FACHE will be a 2017 inductee into the Health Care Hall of Fame.  Dr. Dolan led the ACHE for 22 years, from 1991 to 2013. But before joining the association he already had a distinguished career teaching and directing healthcare administration programs including those at the University of Missouri and St. Louis University.

As part of his ACHE duties Dr. Dolan expressed a particular passion for diversity in healthcare. The Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program was established by the Foundation of ACHE's Fund for Innovation in Healthcare Leadership to honor him.  He also held leadership roles at a variety of organizations nationally and globally, including the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award board, the International Hospital Federation and Association of University Programs in Health Administration.

Dr. Dolan will be honored at a gala March 26 in conjunction with the ACHE's 2017 Congress on Healthcare Leadership, set for March 27-30 in Chicago.  He also will be profiled in the March 27 issue of Modern Healthcare and online.  Missourians can be proud of sharing common ground with this outstanding innovator and leader!

Membership Chair

The Membership Committee is in the midst of a reorganization and revitalization effort!  While the scope remains the same, we have created work teams to specifically address each component.  The charter of the committee is to "direct all membership, recruitment and retention efforts.  In addition, the Membership Committee shall oversee the chapter support of the certification study sessions and certification exams.  The Membership Committee shall also recommend any changes in the membership rolls for action."  Accordingly, there are four work teams with dedicated efforts on recruitment, retention, advancement and best practices.  The Membership Committee is open to all MO-ACHE members who have an interest in serving the chapter and the team structure facilitates focus on the work as well as closer collaboration among members.  If you have interest in learning more and serving on the Membership Committee, please contact Jon Vitiello, Chairperson at  jon.vitiello@mercy.net .
