Redevelopment Opportunity: Historic Longfellow School & Site, Cleveland
The Cleveland Restoration Society is fac
ilitating the RFQ/RFP process to
select a firm for the redevelopment of the historic Henry W. Longfellow School and property in the Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland. In addition to the 50,000 SF school building, the opportunity also includes a three acre, clean development site located just south of the East 140th Street exit from the I-90/OH2 Shoreway.
The Longfellow school is a designated City of Cleveland Landmark and is eligible for Ohio Historic Preservation and Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credits.
Information about the building and site, along with the RFQ response requirements are included in the attached RFQ document. Additional information can also be viewed and downloaded from this Dropbox.
The deadline for RFQ responses is 5:00 pm on Friday, April 27, 2018.

Annual Celebration of Preservation Awards
The Celebration of Preservation Awards is an annual event that honors the best in regional preservation awarded by the Cleveland Restoration Society and the American Institute of Architects Cleveland. Nominations for projects were compiled early 2018 and the jury process is now underway. The jurors will be visiting project sites to review quality, preservation standards, risk, innovation and community impact. These awards serve to educate and inspire, as well as raise the visibility of historic preservation.
This year's jury includes Cleveland Restoration Society representatives Hannah Belsito, Michael Cummins,
Cynthia Druckenbrod, Tom Einhouse, Denise Huck and Elizabeth Corbin Murphy, FAIA. The American Institute of Architects Historic Resources Committee appointed Bill Eberhard AIA, historian Ken Goldberg, Sandra Madison, AIA and John Roush AIA to the jury panel.

SNOOP! College Club with Cleveland Restoration Staff
Join us on Saturday, May 12, for a CRS member tour of The College Club/Alexander House before preservation work begins. The historic Tudor Revival mansion and carriage house were designed by noted Cleveland architectural firm Meade & Garfield. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This former home of The College Club of Cleveland will soon be returned to its original residential use as WXZ Development, Inc. and Dimit Architects carefully create ten apartment homes in the mansion as well as four in the carriage house. This project represents the first Historic Preservation Tax Credit award in the city of Cleveland Heights.

Call for Papers: Alternative to the Present
The Cleveland Urban Design Collective (CUDC) and Kent State College of Architecture & Environmental Design (CAED) are excited to host an interdisciplinary conference on the future of urban agendas. The
"Alternatives to the Present" conference will take place
November 1-2, 2018 in Cleveland. This call for papers seeks a wide array of projects, propositions, and disciplinary critique from the fields of architecture, planning, sociology, urban geography, and allied disciplines. The conference is in collaboration with
The Architecture, Media, Politics, Society (AMPS) platform, which is an international nonprofit research organization.
Abstracts are due June 5, 2018 and registration opens July 1, 2018. Any questions should be directed to CUDC Senior Urban Designer Jeff Kruth.

The allure is undeniable: A mega-corporation moves to town, bringing with it billions in capital investment and tens of thousands of jobs. Little wonder that the ongoing sweepstakes to win Amazon's second headquarters has inspired city and state officials to offer
record-breaking economic incentive packages in the hopes of attracting the online giant. Chicago has offered $2 billion in tax breaks, including a tax diversion program which would redirect up to 100 percent of potential Amazon employees' income taxes back to the company.

Historic Cleveland Cemetery Tour
Stroll among the historic monuments and spring plantings of Cleveland's Lake View Cemetery on this special "Tombs & Blooms" excursion co-hosted by the Oberlin Heritage Center and the Friends of Westwood Cemetery. The guided walking tour takes place Friday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. and includes the James A. Garfield Monument, Wade Chapel, and stories of some of the historic people buried in the cemetery. Participants can drive themselves to the cemetery and meet at the Garfield Monument or sign up to carpool with others from Oberlin. Visit
