MN Supplier Match Launched by Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

From the MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE: The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, champion of grow-your-own economic development, has launched MN Supplier Match, a database that seeks to highlight "Minnesota's robust supply chain and increase business-to-business activity in the state." The initiative is a program of Grow Minnesota!, the chamber's business retention-and-assistance program. Grow Minnesota! operates through 70 local chambers and economic development organizations.
Met Council Turns 50!

From the MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE: Fifty years after its founding, the Metropolitan Council was credited with keeping sewage out of rivers and planning for the region's growth but also faulted for losing the trust of some suburban cities and counties. Former leaders of the Twin Cities' unique regional government offered candid views Thursday on the perennial controversies surrounding the agency, which was founded in 1967 and oversees wastewater, transit and land use planning for the seven-county metro area.
Republican Race for Governor: Matt Dean Drops Out, Throws Support Behind Jeff Johnson

From the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS: The Republican race for Minnesota governor took a significant turn Thursday morning as state Rep. Matt Dean dropped out and threw his support behind Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson.
Dean, a Republican from Dellwood and former majority leader of the House, didn't give specifics on why he was dropping out, although he acknowledged "resources" (campaign funds) and the logistics of amassing support before the Feb. 6 precinct caucuses were factors.

Shakopee Fire to host recruitment events for would-be firefighters

The Shakopee Fire Department is seeking residents (both men and women) who are interested in serving their community as paid-on-call firefighters.

In February, the department will begin accepting applications for paid-on-call firefighters. Shakopee Fire is a highly trained and skilled team of 46 paid-on-call firefighters who operate out of two Shakopee fire stations. The Department also has a crew of full-time firefighters who work during the day.

Position benefits include a starting wage of $13.79/hour, pension, leadership opportunities and more.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and reside within 10 minutes of a fire station. They must also have a valid driver's license and high school diploma/GED. Candidates must also pass a criminal background check and meet physical requirements.

Residents interested in learning more about the Fire Department are encouraged to attend one of two recruitment events at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 and 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at Shakopee Fire Station 1, 2700 Vierling Drive E. These are opportunities for interested candidates and their spouses to learn more about the role and responsibilities of being a paid-on-call firefighter, as well as participate in hands-on skill stations. Parents should leave their children at home.

Candidates interested in attending a recruitment event are asked to email [email protected] and indicate which session they will be attending to provide the department with a proper estimate.

Paid-on-call firefighter applications will be accepted on the city website beginning in mid-February2017. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for March with a late May start date.

More information about the recruitment process is available online at www.ShakopeeMN.gov/fireClick on "Becoming a Firefighter."
