Words of Encouragement
from Fr. Tom
September 4, 2020
This week the clergy of the Diocese had a few hours of ‘retreat’ together via Zoom in the afternoons of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This got me thinking about the spiritual practice of retreat, then I remembered that I will not be able to retreat this year in the usual manner. Since I left my Theological College I have met with two colleagues for a time of retreat every year.

Even though we may not be able to go to retreat houses, it is still important that we take time to retreat and to renew our relationship with God. In today’s reality it may just be taking an hour or two in the natural beauty of a local Park and being unplugged from our electronic devices, or maybe a few minutes sitting in silent prayer in a chair in front of a lit candle.

Retreats are a space to connect deeply with God. They offer a time to listen and discern how to respond to Christ’s call to follow him. They create a space to dwell in the presence of God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

As you continue to show Christ’s Love for you as you serve those around you, I pray that you are able to make a retreat soon.

God bless-
