Step Therapy Bill Moves onto Governor's Desk
A proposal to allow physicians and other prescribers expanded ability to override step therapy requirements passed the Senate by a vote of 56-0 on May 15. The bill now moves on to Gov. Mark Dayton, who is expected to sign it into law. Read more here.

Bill to Extend Use of APCD Passes House
The bill to extend the use of the state's All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) for the purposes of "analysis of health care cost, quality, and utilization baseline and trend information for targeted populations and communities" and compiling public use files passed the House 127-0 on May 15. MMA Signs onto Letter Opposing APRN Compact
The MMA recently signed onto a letter along with the AMA, and 82 other state medical associations and specialty societies in opposition of an APRN Compact proposed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Read more here.

Be on the Lookout for Scams Targeting Sensitive Physician Data
State medical associations in New Jersey, Kansas and the District of Columbia are reporting that their members have been targeted by scammers attempting to obtain sensitive data, including physicians' DEA numbers, social security numbers, credit card data and signatures. Read more here.

 Physicians Gather at Doctors' Lounge in St. Cloud
More than two dozen physicians and physicians-in-training gathered in St. Cloud on May 10 to discuss Tobacco 21 and to network with peers at the MMA's Doctors' Lounge. Health Department Proposes Changes to Communicable Disease Reporting
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is proposing modifications to the Communicable Disease Reporting Rules through the Minnesota rulemaking process and published the Notice of Intent to Adopt without a Hearing on May 14. MDH will accept comments until 4:30 p.m. on June 18, 2018. This rulemaking process will bring the requirements that govern clinical materials up to date to respond better to the current environment. It will eliminate unnecessary submissions and focus on only the submissions that the MDH needs. For more information on the rule, reason behind the changes, and how to comment, visit the MDH website.

Two Open Positions Available on MMA's Policy Council
The MMA's Policy Council has immediate vacancies for two members. All members can apply but the Council would prefer to gain representation from the northwest or southwest parts of the state. Read more here.

Volunteers Needed for Work on Physician Satisfaction
The MMA is looking for physicians to help guide development of programming in support of physician wellbeing/physician satisfaction. The MMA began work on this issue in 2010 and is looking to understand current work underway across the state and identify potential gaps.
