Check out this Webb-site!  The Importance of Relationships, Efficiency and Service
By Joe Webb, National Sales Manager

One important lesson that has emerged in these last tumultuous months is the value of relationships-our relationships with family, friends, neighbors and colleagues. As work-from-home has become the norm for many and face-to-face meetings have become rare in some areas, our business relationships have also come into sharper focus. Some have adjusted to virtual interactions; others have conducted distance meetings, many have experienced a hybrid approach, while others have been relatively unaffected. READ MORE ...

SIGMA Restrained Joint Devices Successfully Installed in Jacksonville, FL Project

"Towards the beginning of 2020, SIGMA Corporation began working on the Butler Boulevard Reclaimed Water project in Jacksonville, FL with T.G. Utility Company, Inc., a noteworthy utility contracting group in Northeast FL" said Steve McDonald, Pipe Restraint Product Manager for SIGMA Corporation. The nature of their business is predominantly watermain transmission and distribution piping, wastewater management and storm drain piping. The customer needed to update older water infrastructure for this project and wanted to minimize the disruption to its own customer base in the area neighborhoods and directly across from the University of North Florida main entrance while construction was taking place. They were installing 7,000 lineal feet of 30in ductile iron pipe in this area north of Butler Blvd. a six-lane divided highway. In addition, T.G. Utility was running approximately 11,000 lineal feet of 16in C900 PVC pressure pipe on the south side of the interstate.  READ MORE ...

Proactive Supply Chain Management Supports Growth in Plant Work
By Sean Salins, Supply Chain Manager

The Specialty and Plant Solutions Division has seen a 50% increase in the sale of medium and large size fittings in 2020, and a general uptick in business across the board. To support this growth, the Supply Chain team, along with the professionals in Specialty and Plant Solutions and Sales, have taken a deep dive into the numbers. As a result of a thorough and ongoing analysis, we are devising a collaborative and proactive strategy to sourcing in order to support this notable expansion. We are looking at ways to shorten the lead-time required on orders by establishing some SBI (stand-by inventory) protocols, as well as improving the quote system to foster maximum transparency, efficiency, and responsiveness.  READ MORE ...

Rybacki Tournament Wrap Up

Dear Extended SIGMA Family,

The 2020 Rybacki Memorial Golf Tournament is in the books and despite Covid-19 we were able to raise a record $90,000 for cancer research. This year's main recipient will be Dr. Jennifer Veneris who is head of Gynecologic Cancer Research in adolescents and young women at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The funds are being raised in honor of our friend Meghan Brescia, who is gallantly fighting uterine cancer and has been for over eight months.

Despite the pandemic, the day of the tournament was perfect and we had 118 golfers playing. Ours was the largest tournament The Haven has hosted all year as the restrictions in Massachusetts to hold tournaments are strictly observed. We had to have a couple of groups tee off in the morning because of the limit on players starting at the same time. But, one really interesting fact is that while we were playing in Massachusetts, the Team at Spec Rubber in Birmingham , Alabama and headed by Steven Smith had their own tournament in Birmingham and raised an additional $1500 for The Jimmy Fund!

All in all, the day was very emotional for me. Family and friends stepped to the plate, and true to form, The Water Works Industry came through with flying colors. As I near the end of my career, I feel so blessed to have spent over 40 years with the finest group of people anyone could imagine. The Tournament Sponsors play such a key role in raising money for our event (we are well over $1 million donated now) and in large part this is thanks to members of The Water Industry. Companies like: Hayes Pipe & Supply, Romac Industries, Ferguson Waterworks, American Flow Control / American Ductile Iron Pipe, McWane Ductile, Mueller Water Products, E. J. Prescott, C.I. Thornburg, Western Water Works, Mid-American Water, H.D. Fowler, Putnam Pipe, HR Prescott & Sons, U.S. Pipe, Warwick Winwater Works, Water Works Suppliers of Puerto Rico, Brent Material Company, Wamco of Canada, McLennan Sales, Campbell Foundry, and many individuals who were a big part of our Industry have generously supported our event for many years. People like Harry Hornish, Jerry Webb, Darrin Anderson, Ed Allred, Paul Leonard, Pat Sullivan, Mike Clingenpeel, and Scott Ellis were all sponsors and many more were Tee & Green sponsors.

When I talk to people about their particular industries such as High Tech, Biomedical, Environmental, etc, I feel like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. "There is no place like home" and home, for me, has been our industry for the better part of my life. As I reflect back on these 40 years, I am so very proud of it!!

As for the golf, we had four divisions and all were won suspiciously with an inordinate amount of cheating by all groups, especially the group of SIGMA's Mike Roy, Sue Van Hook, plus Warwick Winwater's Tim Whall and Campbell Foundry's Ken Farrelly. They used the "Square Root" method to post their score, but win they did!

With 42 people unable to attend because of travel restrictions I never imagined in my wildest dreams that we would have such a successful tournament. My wife Chris and I didn't know whether we would be able to have the tournament as late as four weeks prior, but The Haven really came through for us, as did my able-bodied assistant, Cindy Dayotas. Thank you Waterworks Industry and thank you SIGMA family for making every tournament special.

Service Superstar:  Craig Schapiro

As a company that holds service as one of its core values, SIGMA prides itself on the dedication our teams show to our customers. To showcase SIGMA's commitment to top-notch service, Enews will highlight a "Service Superstar" in each issue. This feature will seek to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond to deliver stellar service. We will look to highlight employees from all departments, not just customer service, because we recognize that our commitment to service runs through every member of the SIGMA Family.

Craig Schapiro has been a standout on the SIGMA team for 27 years, and his knowledge and experience are invaluable to customers and coworkers. During the pandemic, when many in the industry struggled to source product, a long-standing customer reached out to SIGMA for help. The customer was having difficulty sourcing a critical component, and asked Executive Vice President Mitchell Rona for confirmation that SIGMA could supply it. Mitchell assured them that they were in the best hands possible with Craig Schapiro, and Craig delivered. He worked diligently with our sourcing partners, tracked the order to ensure prompt delivery, and kept the customer informed every step of the way.

The customer was so pleased with SIGMA's service, and Craig's help in particular, she said, "For Christmas, I'm asking Santa to let all my vendors be as good at communicating and as thorough as you!"

Congratulations, Craig, on being named SIGMA Service Superstar, thank you for your excellent work, and SIGMA wishes you continued success!

SIGMA Salutes Warehouse Teams for Service Through Pandemic

Throughout the pandemic, SIGMA's Warehouse and Operations teams have embodied the core values of SIGMA: Quality - Service - Commitment - Delivered. They have been the Company's unsung heroes, working quietly and courageously without regard to fanfare or adulation, to get the job done.

This month, each member of the SIGMA Warehouse and Operations team received a personal commendation letter from President Larry Rybacki, along with a commemorative 2020 SIGMA sweatshirt. This was intended to express the company's gratitude for the teams' ongoing dedication and professionalism during the pandemic. Larry expressed the fact that without these employees, there is no SIGMA. Our customers, our distributors, and our sales teams rely on them to move product and ensure that it arrives when and where it is needed.

SIGMA sends sincere and special thanks to all. Please keep up the great work!

Congratulations to Concord Supply on its 40th Anniversary!

SIGMA is proud to congratulate Concord Supply, our partner in Eastern Canada, on their 40th anniversary. SIGMA and Concord have enjoyed a productive partnership for 15 years, as Canada Regional Sales Manager Dave Pietryga explains: "Concord is SIGMA's right arm in Ontario and the Maritime Provinces. They take orders, inventory material, handle warehouse and stocking, and provide customer service. Concord is an unparalleled partner for us." Founded in 1980 by Del Sweet, Concord is considered an institution in the Canadian Waterworks world. Dave continues, "Del Sweet is an icon. Everyone in the industry knew him and loved him, and now his family is carrying on the business with the same commitment and dedication. Tanya Sweet-Pater and Cindy Sweet are doing a great job leading the Concord team."

SIGMA congratulates Concord on this milestone and thanks them for being such a great partner!

Spotlight on SIGMA

We at SIGMA place tremendous value on our SIGMA family. With that in mind, we celebrate the joy and success of our employees and their loved ones, and we share their good news...

From the Northeast Region:

Congratulations to Operations Manager Jim Carr, his wife Diane, and their son, Captain Matthew Carr of the United States Marines Corps. On August 3, Matthew was promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Carr will now oversee training and evaluate applicants for Officer Candidate School. SIGMA congratulates the entire Carr family on this great achievement and thanks Captain Carr for his service.

Congratulations and farewell to Jenny Barone, part time sales assistant.  She has left SIGMA and entered Thomas Jefferson University's Graduate Program in Marriage and Family Counseling.
