2 November 2020 | Chartiers Valley Primary School
Dear Primary School Families,

We are so excited that the second nine weeks is off and running at CVPS! As we begin the second nine weeks, remember that report cards for first and second grade are available on Infinite Campus. Kindergarten students only receive a report card at the end of the second and fourth nine weeks. Now that fall is in full swing, cooler weather is among us. On these cooler days, we ask that students have coats or sweatshirts with them to wear at recess. As long as the weather is not rainy or below freezing, students will be having outdoor recess.

Our school has teamed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Hero Squad starting on November 2, 2020 to teach our students about kindness, bravery, and how working together for one common goal will help both children and adults in their fight against cancer. Visit HeroSquad.org, find our school, and join your classroom team to get started raising money online! While your child is learning goal-setting, self-motivation, and organizational skills, your student will earn fun Hero Gear at various fundraising levels. Money raised will help blood cancer patients right in our community by funding research, providing free information, financial and support services, and advocates for blood cancer patients. Thank you for your support of our Hero Squad and be on the lookout for more information soon! Every hero needs a squad!

CVPS has had an update to the nurse's office email address. If contacting the Primary School nurse, please use pshealthoffice@cvsd.net.

As always, we want to send a sincere thanks to the CVPS community for all of the hard work and dedication this school year within our Hybrid and CV Cyber Academy programs. We are extremely proud of our students, staff, and families!

Be sure to scroll down for an important message from our Superintendent, Dr. Johannah Vanatta.
Sincerely,

Greetings Chartiers Valley Families,

It is hard to believe we are entering the month of November. While the first quarter of the school year was one of transition and uncertainty, our community, staff, and students have been wonderful in supporting the District and complying with COVID-19 requirements. Because of your diligence, we have been able to offer and maintain a four-day in-person learning option to our students. Thank you!

Understandably, there will be turbulence as we navigate through the remainder of this school year. However, through careful planning, preparation and a shared commitment to working together, we will continue to successfully provide for our students and community.

The terms “grit” and “resiliency” have been buzzwords in the world of education in recent years. How do we teach our children to navigate these difficult times, especially those who, before COVID-19, were fortunate enough to have experienced minimal hardship?  I suppose a silver lining of living through a pandemic may be that we are all acquiring and developing critical career-readiness skills. Learning to overcome, problem solve, and think creatively are soft skills that the greatest minds employ. Following this time of crisis, perhaps the next chapter will find the emergence of Resolve, Resilience, Return, Re-imagining, and Reform. (Mckinsey & Co: Beyond the coronavirus: The path to the next normal).

As many of you know, teachers have been assessing student learning throughout the first nine weeks. As a District, we are committed to delivering our high-quality curriculum and instruction, and it is very important that we continue to provide robust educational programs. As such, the District has modified its upcoming holiday calendar dates to offer essential teacher professional development. Tuesday, December 1, and Monday, January 4 are now District Teacher Professional Development days. There will be no school for students on these days.

Proudly, we have thus far maintained our most crucial aspect -- providing education to our students. We must continue following safety protocols with diligent compliance. Wear face masks in school and during school functions and events, wash hands often, stay home if you are ill, and notify the school if your student has any symptoms. We mustn’t let our guard down now, Chartiers Valley!

Have a wonderful Monday, and remember it’s a great day to be a Colt!
Most Sincerely,

Johannah M. Vanatta, Ed.D.
