Poor People's Campaign
Forward together - not one step back!
Changing the story to change the system.
Congratulations! The actions you took on Monday.....have already "changed the story."
We must continue to mobilize for Week Two and a larger turnout in DC and at our state capitols for Moral Monday, May 21st to speak truth to power. We can't stop now!
Report on Week One: Focusing on women, children, people with disabilities and poverty
On the partnership organizations call, Rev. Barber was overjoyed: this first Moral Monday was already "changing the narrative," because never before had so many participated in non-violent action - over 1000 people arrested who dared to take to the streets in 37 state capitols. That figure, he said, would have increased to probably 2,000, if those in 7 states that the police refused to arrest had, in fact, been arrested. Refusing to arrest people for NVDA was used in the civil rights era by police to strategically subvert the action meant to draw media coverage. Rev. Barber reported that:
- The Associated Press will now do a major story on poverty that, he noted, they weren't doing 2-3 months ago
- The PPC was the 3rd highest trend on social media and retweets and 50,000 people were watching the PPC DC event on-line
- MSNBC will now do weekly coverage of the PPC
- Here is a list of media coverage compiled by the Campaign
40 Days of Moral Fusion Direct Action Schedule of Activities
