Recently, a few CYMS students were able to assist with some of the costume fabricating for the CYHS musical, Beauty and the Beast. Jordan Messinger, Olivia Gallagher, Ava Beamesderfer and Madelyn Snare helped to create pieces for the wolves, the wire whisk, Cogsworth, etc. Some CYMS
students were treated to a sneak peak of the show by attending the CYHS
teaser performance of Beauty and the Beast at the high school and got a chance to meet some of the cast.
TEAMS
On Team A history students are wrapping up the creation of their i-Movies on the American Revolution and will be presenting their final productions in class. Honors algebra students are completing their sequence unit; pre-algebra students are studying proportions and systems of equations. In science, students have been identifying processes of phase change through investigation of an ice water system. As the third marking period begins, language arts students will be evaluating and writing arguments in the process of discovering how outside influences shape identity in real world and fictional settings. Please join us in encouraging your student to stay focused, complete work, and try his or her best as we enter the second half of the school year!

Language Arts - Miss Barkus and Mrs. Howell
"The power of poetry makes it a real force to be reckoned with." January overflowed with opportunities that encouraged students to write in new, creative, and different ways. As we wrap up a poetry-filled month, students will participate in our much anticipated class
Poetry Slam 2018! It is our hope that the reading of original poetry aloud in class will not only emphasize speaking and listening skills, but also foster trust and empathy in our classroom community.
Math - Miss Hanes
Students on Team T math are currently working across four chapters, chapter 5 through chapter 9. Working on topics such as: proportional relationships, probability, word problems, solving and writing equations, solving and writing inequalities, percents, data analysis, angles, surface area, and volume.

Team N Newsletter Information
Science - Team N students are learning that seeds are living organisms in a dormant state. We are using dissections and microscopes to discover how they grow and develop.
Math - Students are working at their own pace, but within benchmarks set for each chapter. Ms. Richter gives mini lessons frequently, and students utilize screencasts to supplement the instruction. For each chapter, two possible tests dates are set, so students can move quickly as needed or take more time and get more practice as needed. Ms. Richter offers help and practice during flex, so learners are encouraged to use that time when they need it. Many students are doing pre-algebra concepts right now, from solving equations and inequalities to writing equations and using charts to represent word problems. Other students are extending their knowledge of percents and probability.
History - Team N Students have just started learning about the classical civilization of Ancient Greece. Students are currently working on a Chapter Overview then we will analyze Greece's location and physical features.
Language Arts - In Mrs. Brown's class,
we are exploring nonfiction. We are concluding our practice with text structure and moving on to other aspects of nonfiction. In Mr. Potts's room, the students are constructing an argumentative essay, step-by-step.
