THE MONITOR
News from Eberle Design Inc. & Reno A&E
In This Issue - January 2017

The Monitor is dedicated in loving memory of EDI's first employee, Fran Trujillo, who served in Purchasing at EDI for more than three decades. Sadly, she lost her short battle with cancer last week. Rest in peace, Fran. We all miss you.

standardsStandards Drive International Transportation Market

NEMA standards have driven the traffic signal control industry for more than three decades. The NEMA Transportation Management Systems and Associated Control  Devices Section (3TS) establishes product standards that facilitate global market expansion, states Dr. Bill Sowell, Eberle Design Inc. and Reno A&E Vice President of Business Development in NEMA's electroindustry magazine.

"NEMA standards, which provide a basis for enhanced product quality and safety for motorists and pedestrians, enable the efficient movement of people and goods. They empower my sales teams to be more competitive in the global marketplace in terms of product form, fit, function, reliability, and enhanced safety," Dr. Sowell adds.

savingSaving Time and Money with the iCITE® Data Aggregator DA-300™

See that guy in a safety vest sitting across the coffee shop? Yeah, him. He looks so engrossed with something on his laptop that his coffee is going to get cold. Don't assume he's posting on social media or reading breaking news. He could be monitoring all of his traffic signals and saving a ton of time and money.

That was the situation recently when a traffic signal maintenance supervisor, taking a break from the morning chill, received an alert that a cabinet door was unexpectedly opened. One quick call confirmed it was preventative maintenance, and all was good again. The  iCITE® Intelligent Cabinet Interface to Traffic Equipment DA-300™ from Eberle Design Inc. is a data and communications rich hardware platform that provides real-time cabinet status, cabinet health and critical alarms. It is like being at every intersection 24/7.

The DA-300™ easily interfaces with controllers, detectors and MMUs transforming any legacy traffic cabinet into a count station; providing turning movement counts, split timing information, and remote intersection data to your ATMS data set. With GPS-based time sync and travel time ready via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth sensor network, rest assured your controllers are in sync and your live data is accurate.

introducingIntroducing Reno A&E's New PLA Series  for 1/8 Inch or Larger Saw Cuts

Reno A&E's new PLA Series Prefabricated Loops, launching this month, are designed for all access control applications. They are ultra-lightweight and designed with Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulation.

The new PLA Series loops utilize a ribbon cable type design to be installed in 1/8 inch saw cuts, or larger, and are extremely flexible even in cold temperature environments. There is no need to cut 45 degree relief corners. Just notch out or use a small 1/4 inch drill bit to remove the sharp inside corners. Not having to cut 45-degree relief corners will provide a longer life cycle of the roadway surface. They also incorporate a tinned 20 AWG, 4-conductor, stranded copper wire for corrosion resistance.

As with all of RAE prefabricated loop products, they offer a 10-year warranty and they are all tested, then soaked in salt water tanks for a minimum of three days, then tested again.
