Help us pass legislation to protect consumers from surprise medical bills and prevent legislation that puts ratepayers in the dark!
There are just two days left in the 2018 Legislative Session, and we are asking you to make two important calls:

Surprise Medical Bills - Vote YES!

House Bill 314 is expected to be amended and get a vote tomorrow in the Georgia House of Representatives. This legislation would prevent consumers from receiving balance bills when they unexpectedly receive care from providers that are not in their insurance plan networks during emergencies.  Surprise out-of-network medical bills can be hundreds or thousands of dollars, and it's time to pass legislation in Georgia that protects consumers!  Call your State Representative today and urge them to vote "YES" on House Bill 314 because this legislation protects patients from surprise bills in emergency situations.

Hijack Alert: House Bill 189 - Vote NO!

The electric utility for the City of Dalton, a co-owner in the Plant Vogtle project, is seeking to  amend Georgia code to allow exemptions for local governments to issue revenue bonds for electric utility projects without first seeking a vote of approval from local residents. This exemption could allow them to raise rates to cover higher Vogtle costs without any advance notice to or vote of approval from Dalton residents! Other Georgia Municipal electric utilities could follow!  This original legislation,  House Bill 924,  was defeated in the Georgia House Ways and Means Committee earlier this year after opposing testimony from our  executive director Liz Coyle, but we've heard that proponents are trying to hijack House Bill 189, an unrelated bill that could be on the Senate floor tomorrow.  Call your State Senators and urge them to vote "NO" on a version of House Bill 189 that contains dangerous language that puts ratepayers in the dark.
