Downtown Parking Opens Up
Have you seen them? Attractive new signs clearly identify downtown's public parking lots and also designate the time limits (if any) for individual stalls. It's much easier to use off-street parking if you know where it is! In addition, a new two-tiered lease system opens up many spaces for evening and weekend shopping, dining, and events, where previously those stalls were not available (although used only during Monday through Friday work hours). Participants of all ages are invited to come out for the 18th annual Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday, April 21. Volunteers can register at the Port of Burlington beginning at 8:30 AM to get
t-shirts, water bottles, trash bags and gloves. After going out to pick up litter throughout the community, they return to the Port for a free lunch, music, door prizes, and a group photo. Individuals, families, businesses, church groups, and organizations are all encouraged to lend a hand in caring for our piece of earth. For more information, call Tabetha Gerdner

The Downtown Partners Design Committee is again seeking creative entries for the popular "County Seat Project" to decorate wooden benches. The committee will pick the best designs, and the winning entrants will paint the benches. Applications may be downloaded at

Downtown Burlington is definitely the place to be on the first weekend in May! The Jefferson St. Farmers Market opens its season on Thursday, May 3 from 4:30 to 7:30, supported by Two Rivers Bank & Trust. On Friday, May 4, it's the Spring Sip, Taste & Stroll from 5 to 8 PM, made possible by Tri States Public Radio. And the Spring Open House is happening at your favorite shops on Saturday, May 5. The blockbuster news of the $17 million TIGER grant has downtown buzzing! Along with the flood remediation work, this will utterly transform the appearance and uses of our major public spaces at the riverfront, as well as along Jefferson and Main Sts. There will be much more to come on this.

Three major buildings in the Manufacturing & Wholesale Historic District have been purchased by a Quad Cities firm. The mixed-use development planned for the Blaul building at 425 Valley (former Skerik's/9 Dot Studio/Hopefully Yours), the Churchill building at 100 N. Fourth (former Moto's Public House), and 317 Valley (the wagon works building with the Coca-Cola ghost signs) includes over 100 new apartments. The significance of this project would be hard to overstate.
