Dear Center for Irish Music supporters,
We are looking forward to our 17th year of offering lessons and classes in Irish traditional music. Fall term starts after Labor day, with a full roster of online classes and lessons!
There's still time to register. Just peruse our group classes for students of all ages on our registration site. Contact Lily Gaetgaeow to set up private lessons with any of our wonderful instructors.
There are three changes to classes that we want to bring to your attention:
Introduction to Tin Whistle for Kids, for students ages 6-9, is being offered on Mondays from 4:45pm-5:30pm, taught by Adrienne O'Shea. Register here
Young Adult Ensemble has been shortened to a 5-week class, being offered from November 3rd to December 8th (Tuesdays 7:30-8:30pm). Register here
Introduction to Tin Whistle for Adults has been so popular that we've opened up a new class (Tuesdays at 7:30-8:30pm), starting September 8th. If Thursday class registrants would like to switch over, send Lily an email to admin@centerforirishmusic.org. Get your d whistles at Irish On Grand and pick up a few other things while you're there! Register here
Thanks to everyone who came to our annual Open House on Sunday, August 23rd. The event was well-attended, but we missed seeing your smiles and hearing you play along with the session led by Mary Vanorny, Brian Miller and I. Thanks to CIM instructors, Alisa Mee, Todd Menton, Dáithí Sproule and Danny Diamond for their wonderful class demonstrations.
There's plenty of room in our Common Tunes Session class on Fridays at 4:00pm. This learning opportunity is free with a $20 registration fee. See link below to register.
Enjoy the turning of the seasons, get outside and play a tune or sing a song! I look forward to connecting with you soon.
Norah Rendell
Executive Artistic Director

REMEMBERING FRANK PASQUERELLA
|
|
The Center for Irish Music and O'Shea Irish Dance communities said goodbye to Frank Pasquerella on August 7th after a short battle with esophageal cancer at age 53. Frank was a well-loved, longtime friend at the Celtic Junction, often referred to as "Carmen and Gabby's dad". For the CIM, Frank was a steadfast champion of our mission, a tireless supporter of his children's music education, and a good friend. He cared about all of the kids at CIM and OID.
Outside of our community, Frank influenced thousands of music students as the band director at Eastview High School from 1997-2020. In 2017, Frank organized a trip to Ireland for the Eastview Highschool band, collaborating with Eamonn Cotter, a flute player that he met at the Minnesota Irish Music Weekend.
Frank, we miss you. Thank you for raising the bar, for having faith in us, for your passion, and for the gift of your wonderful family. Your spirit will always be with us.
To see Frank's memorial service, including eulogies from Frank's wife Maria, his eldest daughter Carmen, and Bill Henry, a colleague from Eastview, go to this youtube link. Irish music was played throughout the service, including a stunning version of the Emigrant's Farewell, played by Carmen. This was the air that won Carmen 3rd place in u15 airs at the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.

The Center for Irish Music will be offering all Fall programs in a virtual format for the duration of the Fall term through January 31st. Please know that our dedicated instructors would much prefer to be with you at our classrooms at the Celtic Junction! However, with the safety of our intergenerational community in mind - including students, instructors, and family members - online instruction is our best option. If our leadership deems it safe to meet in person before the end of the fall term, we will share that information with you right away.
Students can expect regular communication through emails and monthly newsletters. In the meantime, our instructors will do their best to offer the highest quality learning experiences in the virtual format.
