Movin' Up Cancer Fitness Class!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to let you know about an amazing program in Lakeview. The Lakeview YMCA has a fitness class called "Movin' Up". Created by 12th District resident,  Lenette Collias, this program provides support to individuals with cancer Lenette, herself a breast cancer survivor, led the development of this  innovative program to give back to others .

Movin' Up is a supportive   community and includes those who are maintaining their  current health or journeying through an injury, illness, disease or life event.  With the understanding that fatigue, weakness and weight gain can result from cancer treatment, the instructor focuses on each individual to restore energy, increase strength, improve stamina and get fit. The exercises will improve range of motion, enhance physical fitness and encourage well-being for those at all fitness levels.

Movin' Up is free for all and runs every Wednesday 9:00-9:45 am at the Lakeview YMCA, 3333 N. Marshfield. It is held in the group fitness studio. Contact Andrea Tamillo at 773-248-3333 for more information.
Dear Neighbor,

Grab a sweater-- Fall is here and  it's a busy one. We had a very successful seminar for condominium owners and associations. Due to the seminar's popularity we're going to plan more around the district.

On Friday, October 21st we are hosting two Coffee and Conversation events. From 9:30am-11:00am at Stella's Diner (3042 N. Broadway) in the back room and from 3:00pm-4:30pm at Mariano's (3030 N. Broadway). Feel free to join us and bring a friend . See below for more information.

Soon the streets of Lakeview, Lincoln Park and Near North Neighborhoods will be filled with trick-or-treaters and fun events everyone will enjoy. We are happy to provide you with tips for a great experience for your little ghouls and goblins: Place a name tag on their costume with your phone number, bring a flashlight and, if possible, choose a light colored costume to increase visibility after dusk. Click here to check out a list of local Halloween activities!

Safety is always our number one priority. Join us at our Public Safety Forum on October 27 to hear from 3 expert speakers on gun violence prevention and public safety measures.

And how about those Cubbies!! The Cubs are back in the
National League Championship Series.

We want to shower our neighborhood with support for the Cubs. Pick up your free "Fly The W" signs at the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce office at 3138 N. Broadway, Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm.

Let's celebrate the success of our Cubs! As a result of the Cubs' playoff run, make sure to check out parking and street closure information at the bottom of this email.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can ever be of assistance to you. Also, be sure to check out our  Facebook   and Twitter pages to keep in touch and learn more about news and events in the area.

Very truly yours,

Sara Feigenholtz

43rd Ward Condo Summit

Thanks to all who joined us for the ve ry successful seminar for residents of condos, co-ops, townhomes and homeowner associations. At the Summit, experts and informative panelists discussed helping residents age in place, association compliance with the new short-term rental laws, and advice about common condominium and homeowners association issues.

Because of the Summit's popularity we're hoping to have another condo event in the near future. In the meantime, our presenters were generous and gave us links to their presentations, posted below:

Common Condo Issues, Attorney Sima Kirsch

Age-Friendly Chicago, Executive Director Joyce Gallagher, Department of Aging

Lincoln Park Village handout and brochure, Founding Executive Director Dianne Campbell

Short Term Rental Ordinance overview and presentation, Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection

Sara's Annual Senior Health and Resource Fair - another success!
Over 100 seniors filled Weiss Memorial Hospital's WISE Senior Center last week for Representative Feigenholtz's fifth annual Senior Health and Resource Fair. Senate President John J. Cullerton and Weiss Memorial Hospital co-sponsored the event. Weiss Hospital doctors and 29 health and wellness organizations participated in the Fair.

The Senior Health Fair featured free flu shots and health screenings, resources, and three 30-minute classes taught by Weiss Hospital doctors. The doctors lectured on hearing loss as we age, being healthy beyond medicine, and oral health issues seniors should know about.

Participating organizations provided free handouts and goodies. Participants were offered free screenings by Weiss Hospital for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, hearing loss, oral health and balance and strength testing.

Rep. Feigenholtz intends on hosting a community Health Fair next year with Weiss Hospital. "We would like to thank Weiss Hospital for being such a great community partner and sponsoring this event year after year," Rep. Feigenholtz said.
Back-to-School Supply Drive

Our annual school supply drive gives us a chance to thank our teachers, principals and parents for all they do for our kids. We've been dropping off supplies at schools all month . Thank you to our generous neighbors for all of your donations and for making this possible. You can see how happy the students at Agassiz Elementary School were to receive all of these items.
