Tiverton Library News and Events 
April 2018    
Library Director Ann Grealish-Rust and Adult Services Librarian Prudence Fallon are retiring from the Tiverton Public Library after many years of service.  Join them for a special celebration on Tuesday evening, April 24th from 6:30-8pm in the Community Room.  Entertainment will be provided by Irish Step Dancing troupe Tir Na Nog between 6:30-7:00pm,  and refreshments will be served.  Come and share your good wishes with Ann and Prue as they begin the next phase in their lives.

Miniature Golf Information Session
Monday, April 2 @ 7:00 pm - Learning Center
Calling all community members! Help the library create miniature golf holes to be used in the library for a fun, community event! Join us on Monday, April 2nd for an informational meeting about the event, currently scheduled to take place in June. No committment is necessary to attend the informational session.

Rhode Island Library Day: T-Shirt Making!
Saturday, April 14 @ 11:00am - 1:00pm - Community Room April 14, 2018 is Rhode Island Library Day! Join us in celebration with DIY t-shirt printing. Bring your own dark colored t-shirt to screen print a uniquely created design onto. Shirt design will be created by library staff member, Jason Eckhardt. Supplies will be limited, so please register by phone or email for the event ahead of time for an accurate supply count.

 Learn all about how the BBB can help inform and protect you when purchasing consumer goods and services. The Better Business Bureau 101 presentation is free and open to the public.  We will also have a large amount of free literature to assist you in all areas of finance all week. Please feel free to stop in anytime during Money Smart Week to get your information.

TEEN EVENTS  
 
Teen Announcement! 
The Tiverton Teen Library community won a prize!  The Tiverton Teens (both at the library and at the high school) submitted 55 votes at the Tiverton Library Rhode Island Teen Book Award voting station.  Teens were voting on the 2018 Rhode Island Teen Book Award nomination list.  55 votes won the Tiverton Teens 3rd place in the state for highest number of votes submitted!  The
prize awarded by the RITBA voting committee was a set of free books!  These books were donated by the Tiverton Library to the Tiverton High School library!  Great job, Tiverton Teens!
 
Teen Advisory Board  Tuesday, April 3rd, 6-7pm in the Teen Room  
Come hang out and discuss titles that you are reading, what you would like to see happen at the library, and eat some snacks!  Earn a community service hour for attending! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.

National Library Week
April 8th - 14th at the Tiverton Public Library
Each year the American Library Association (ALA) devotes an entire week to the celebration of Libraries.  Join us at the Tiverton Public Library for a week chock full of activities for all ages that celebrate the services that the Tiverton Public Library provides to the Tiverton Community!

YA for Adults Book Group

Build a Skill Saturday - Sharpie Black Out Poetry  
Stop by the Teen Room to upcycle some damaged/discarded books into works of art.  Take something old and make it new again.  Use your creativity to take pages from old books and a sharpie and create poems by blacking out words to leave only the words you wish to use in your poem.  Activity is limited to students in Grades 6 through 12.  This is a drop-in activity; no registration is required.

This activity will be run multiple times this month!  So there will be multiple opportunities for you to create!

NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK: Bring Your Own Book Club *Drop Everything and Read Day Edition!* Thursday, April 12th, 6-7pm in the Teen Room  Bring whatever you're reading (have read) and discuss it (even better if you didn't like it!) with other readers.  Snacks provided! Participation is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.

Anime & Manga Group

Monthly Anime & Manga meet up is still meeting!  Join other interested teens in lively discussion, anime viewing, craft making, and snack eating!  Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.

Cubee Craft: Guardians of the Galaxy Edition
Friday, April 20th, 2-5pm in the Community Room  Cubee Craft action figure printouts will be available to make or take in the Community Room during our showings of Guardians of the Galaxy. Come hang out and make an action figure while you watch a movie or take a template home with you to complete at a later time.  An assortment of characters from the Guardians movies will be made available.

Sup er-Packed School Vacation Movies
Friday and Saturday, April 20-21.
It's Super Packed School Vacation week! Join us Friday and Saturday for super-hero movies at the library, accompanied by super-hero cubee crafts! Join us for a dine-in showing of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 & 2 projected on the big screen in our Community Room.  Bring your lunch! Free popcorn and candy provided!  Our Teen Movie showings are part of our Teen Program offerings but are open to all.

Super Monkey's Sleepover Party*

Mr. Monkey is having a sleepover party and your stuffed animal or doll is invited to attend.  Bring a stuffed friend to the children's activity room between 2-3pm and help get them ready for a special night at the library.  Kids may pick up their stuffed animals and see pictures of the party on Friday, April 20th between 10:30am-4:00pm.
*Only dolls and stuffed animals may spend the night at the library; all children will have to say goodnight to their stuffed friends at 3pm.  This activity is recommended for ages 3+.

Come to the Tiverton Public Library on Tuesdays between 2-3:30pm to learn how to access the library's free eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming movies with your library card.

One-on-One Computer Skills Tutoring, Ongoing, Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment
The Tiverton Public Library offers one-on-one computer skills help sessions with Technology Librarian, Sam Simas. These meetings are designed to teach you how to use computers, phones, and tablets to connect with information and library services. Topics for these sessions can cover downloading and using eBooks and audiobooks, researching with library databases, navigating social media sites, understanding internet safety and security, and using your phone, tablet, laptop, or ereader.
