What is Eating our Trees? - An Emerald Ash Borer Workshop
March 29, 2018
Tyler, Texas

Emerald Ash Borer is in Texas and this invasive insect has the potential to attack and kill the ash tree populations like it has in communities throughout North America.

At this workshop, subject matter experts Dr. Dave Coyle, Dr. Fredric Miller, and Emmett Muennink will discuss - Where EAB is now, what to expect, and how to manage and mitigate its effects. This workshop is for community public works or parks and recreation managers, certified arborists and tree care companies, and the general homeowner with an ash tree in their yard.

Senior Tree Care - ISAT Master's Series
April 19, 2018 - Houston
April 20, 2018 - San Antonio

This one-day Master's Series in Arboriculture will help you understand how trees age and teach the specialized skills required to maintain mature trees.  Mature trees respond differently to available resources and environmental changes than younger trees. Tree health care management must account for the unique processes of mature trees and different arboricultural practices are required to help maintain mature tree health, structural integrity, and growth.   Mature tree physiology and prescriptions for pruning, fertilization, and prevention of injury will be highlighted.

Stronger Than Steel, Able to Stop a Speeding Bullet-It's Super Wood!
Some varieties of wood, such as oak and maple, are renowned for their strength. But scientists say a simple and inexpensive new process can transform any type of wood into a material stronger than steel, and even some high-tech titanium alloys. Trees For Houston Grows Houston
In Houston, the greenery is the scenery
Founded in 1983, Trees For Houston initially focused its early efforts on planting street trees in the heart of Houston. Now celebrating our 30th anniversary, with nearly half a million trees planted, our organization has evolved into one that grows, plants and maintains thousands of trees across the greater Houston region.

With only 10 staff members - and the help of many volunteers - Trees for Houston plants a minimum of 20,000 trees every year in the greater Houston area.
