Meet & Greet: Logan Lurie

This month, we're catching up with participant Logan Lurie, a sophomore at Howard High who, in addition to playing at the ACE-level, mentors several First Tee classes, takes part in the LPGA e-Leader program, and chairs the Teen Advisory Board.

Q: Tell me about the national opportunities you've participated in through The First Tee.

A: Last summer I was selected to attend the First Tee National Opportunity: USGA Learning Science through Golf Academy in New Jersey.  During the five days, I worked with USGA engineers and scientists to design, build and test a device to measure green speed, visited the USGA Museum, visited Rutgers University Turf Management program, and had behind-the-ropes access at the LPGA US Womens Open.

Drive, Chip and Putt Championship Registration Open
A PGA Competition

Calling all junior golfers ages 7-15: registration is now open for the 2019 Drive, Chip and Putt Championship! This annual, free nationwide junior golf development competition is aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf.

Drive, Chip and Putt is a joint initiative founded in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America. The First Tee of Howard  County  encourages participation but is not directly affiliated with the Drive, Chip and Putt.

First Tee Alumnus Wins PGA Tour-Affiliated Championship

© GOLFFILE / KEN MURRAY Scott Langley graduates from The First Tee to the winner's circle on the Web.com Tour.
Scott Langley, a graduate of The First Tee of St. Louis,  finished a final-round 65 and rallied to capture the  Web.com  Tour's Panama Championship on February 4, becoming the first of The First Tee alumni to win a PGA Tour-affiliated championship.

"While I had been introduced to golf before I participated in The First Tee, the program revealed to me the many values that are inherent in the game.
The First Tee gave me opportunities to learn about confidence, to build and practice it during different programs we would do both locally and nationally, at places like The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach," Langley said.

Langley grew up playing golf at the Family Golf and Learning Center in St. Louis, and joined the local chapter of The First Tee at the age of 16. He went on to star on the University of Illinois' golf team, winning the 2010 NCAA individual championship as a junior.
