March 20, 2018
Hundreds of Carondelet students joined in solidarity with students from across the nation on March 14 to participate in the National School Walkout, honoring the victims of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, and calling for an end to gun violence. The 17-minute "Winton Walkout" was organized and led entirely by students.
In a letter to parents, President Bonnie Cotter said: "As a school community, we support all our students and their right to express themselves in a safe environment as they continue to learn more about themselves and the world around them."

Inaugural Hall of Fame Class Announced

Choir Wins Gold in Anaheim

Congratulations to the Carondelet Chorale and Carondelet & De La Salle Concert Choir for their stellar performances in the Heritage Music Festival on March 9. Their performances earned the festival's highest ratings of gold!

When asked about working with the adjudicators, Megan Nixon '18 said, "They had so many great insights, and it was great to work with such talented professionals."

The choirs also had the opportunity to work with a Disney recording studio specialist who coached them in a performance of a Pixar short and a rendition of "Goin' Down the Bayou" from The Princess and the Frog. It was fun and educational for students to get a behind-the-scenes look into the process of recording music to film. They are ecstatic about their performance and look forward to learning new repertoire for the Winton Arts Festival spring concert on Friday, April 20.
Students Prepare to "Get Real"

On March 8, five seniors attended the "Get Real Academy," an annual event sponsored by the local chapter of Soroptimists International. The day-long program is designed to prepare high school senior girls for adult life.

The breakout sessions included lessons on managing finance and credit, preparing for job interviews, caring for one's physical and emotional health, and practicing self-defense. Carondelet participants included (from left) Abigail Norris '18, Allison Haley '18, Aubrie Haley '18, Geline Mascardo '18, and Mia Shoka '18.

"It was an enriching opportunity and a great way to celebrate International Women's Day," Geline said.

Just in time for Easter, the Soroptimist Club, or "S" Club, members have been busy making special Easter baskets for the homeless children served by Concord-based Shelter, Inc. Our students generously donated all the treats and assembled the baskets, which are sure to bring joy to many kids during this special time of year.

JV Lacrosse Makes Blankets for a Good Cause

For the fourth consecutive year, the Carondelet junior varsity lacrosse program held a blanket-making party to support the  Trevor's Eagle Scout Foundation. With 42 blankets completed this year,  the Cougars have donated more than 150 blankets since 2015.

The Trevor's Eagle Project Foundation was created on behalf of Trevor Tonsing, who wasn't able to finish his Eagle Scout project of making blankets for Children's Hospital, due to his passing at the young age of 16. Trevor's father, Jon Tonsing, created the foundation to finish Trevor's Eagle Scout project, which has donated over 5,000 blankets to date.

Carondelet JV lacrosse head coach Phil Mannoni spoke with Jon Tonsing, who said, "It's nice to see your team take the time to make blankets, and we're very grateful for the donation. I truly appreciate what the girls did. They will make a child feel comfort in the hospital."
