The administration, faculty and staff of TABC is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of
Rabbi Ozer Glickman zt"l, beloved father of our own Maya Engler.
This is deep loss for Yeshiva University, where Rabbi Glickman was a Rosh Yeshiva, for Teaneck as a whole, for klal Yisrael, and most of all for his family.
May Maya and her family be comforted among the mourners of Tziyon &Yerushalayim

TABC Dominates at Science Olympiad
|
After two long months of practice, TABC's Science Olympiad team dominated last Sunday's Science Olympiad at Touro's Lander College. Science Olympiad is an annual competition between 13 NY-area yeshiva high schools, consisting of 12 diverse events related to science and engineering. This year, topics for events included geology, biology, estimation of large values (such as the number of drops of water in the oceans) and tower-building, among others. Captained by Mark Gotesman '18 and Tani Greengart '18 and coached by Mrs. Esther Ruskin and Mr. Yochanon Bogart, and assisted by Rabbi Shaya First, TABC's 15-man team won medals in 11 out of 12 events, taking first place for the second year in a row. SAR and Ramaz finished in second and third place, respectively.
TABC's team was mostly a self-selecting group-only the most dedicated STEM students volunteered to expend the effort necessary to master their events. From the end of January until mid-March, team members stayed late in school multiple times per week, studying various areas of science and building engineering projects. The team's hard work paid off, and they look forward to competing again next year! For more photos, click

Book Day 2018 is Out of this World
|
As the students hovered around Mr. Aaron Brown, aerospace engineer at NASA's Johnson Space Center, wanting to ask more questions but needing to rush to their first session, we knew that our keynote speaker had struck a chord and that Book Day 2018 was off to a good start. And when students came late to lunch because they just had to finish their Ductigami wallets or were conversing with Mr. Chizzik of the Weizmann Institute or Coach Gila about their nutritional needs, that whiff of success became even more palpable. Previously, every student had been given his own copy of The Martian, by Andy Weir, and Tuesday, March 20th, had been designated Book Day, a day for outside presenters and faculty to discuss the book from the halakhic, psychological, medical, artistic, literary, scientific, nutritional and environmental perspectives. In the middle of the day, we were treated to a performance of the off-Broadway show That Physics Show, given by David Maiullo, a performer par excellence. Following that, each student had the opportunity to experience "Escape the Room," Martian style. It was a great day all around.
We have now celebrated eight Book Days at Torah Academy of Bergen County, but both our former librarian Mrs. Moskovits and English Chairperson Dr. Master, organizers of the full-day event, agree that this Book Day was out of this world! For a video of the keynote speaker, click

TABC Earns Honors at Model Congress
|
TABC's model congress delegation traveled to the Young Israel of Woodmere this past Tuesday to participate in Yeshiva League Model Congress which was hosted by HAFTR High School. Students were afforded the opportunity to compose and present bills or resolutions, debate the pressing issues facing our nation, and interact with peers from thirteen local yeshivot high school in mock sessions of congress. Aharon Nissel '18 and Jacob Lerer '19 were awarded Best Delegate honors in their respective committees while Aryeh Brusowankin '18 and Avraham Kahan '19 were distinguished in earning an honorable mention in their respective committees. We are proud of all our students for representing TABC with distinction.

TABC's
Evening of the
Arts was a wonderful program which displayed the wide breadth of
artistic talent of our students. The night began with an
art gallery curated by Mrs. Shankman with works created in her studio
art classes, accompanied by poems from Mrs. Edelman's and Mrs. Miller's English classes. Next up were the main performances, hosted by seniors Aharon Nissel and Yitzchak Tollinsky, who introduced each act and threw in short comedy routines in between. The program consisted of a scene from the play "Waiting for Godot," performed by Aharon Nissel, Yitzchak Tollinsky, Rami Levin and Netzach Schuman. Jacob Tennenbaum and Boaz Kapitanker then acted out an original play "What Street" by Jacob Tennenbaum. Musical acts included performances by Dovid Pearlman, Avrumi Davis, and a piece from Mr. Shim Craimer's Music and Media class. The Envision Shakespeare team put on Julius Caesar Act 1 Scene 2, with Mikey Schwartz and Daniel Rothstein performing monologues. The
evening concluded with a student film produced by Binyamin Schulhof, Avi Baer, Eli Schiff, and Josh Goldman. Thanks to Jacob Gordon for sound effects and technical work and to Mrs. Rebecca Lopkin for organizing the event. For more photos, click

Pre-Pesach Parent-Son Learning
|
TABC had a special Pre-Pesach Parent-Son Learning event on Monday night. After dinner there was multi-generational chavruta preparation for the shiur. Rabbi Larry Rothwachs, the Rabbi of Cong Beth Aaron (and parent of sophomore Yisrael) gave a shiur on Mitzvah Bo Yoter Mibishlocho: What baking matza can teach us every day of the year." It was a wonderful preparation for the sedarim which are primarily predicated on parent-child learning. For more photos, click

Riverdale Shabbaton Brings TABC Warmth Across the Bridge |
TABC spread its warmth over the George Washington Bridge, on its annual Riverdale shabbaton. Nearly 60 talmidim came to Riverdale, one of the many communities that comprise the TABC family. After eating the first seudah at their hosts, everyone gathered at the Craimer home, where TABC's own Chazzan Shim Craimer hosted, and led, an oneg with beautiful singing.Throughout the shabbaton, seniors from Riverdale shared divrei Torah, as the talmidim heard from Yoni Fine, Raphi Langer and Yonatan Sturm. On Shabbat day, after davening, the talmidim chose between shiurim by TABC rebbeim Rabbi Ben Krinsky and Rabbi Shaya First. Everyone enjoyed the second seudah together at The Riverdale Jewish Center. In the afternoon, there was an optional get-together at the home of YU Rosh Yeshiva Rav Mordechai Willig, where the esteemed Rav answered questions and sang with the talmidim. The group came together again for Seudah Shlishit at the Sturms' home. After Shabbat, they all returned to TABC for a presentation by inspirational beatboxer Ilan Brownstein.

TABC Math Department Participates in
Pre-Calculus Conference at Rutgers
|
On Friday, March 15th, the TABC department of mathematics participated in the 32nd annual Pre-Calculus Conference at Rutgers University. The teachers participated in sharing sessions and interactive presentations on topics ranging from improving student engagement in Algebra to incorporating Desmos and other technology into math class. The plenary session focused on the drawbacks of the current methods of high school mathematics education across the country, and gave an action plan for revamping it. The TABC math teachers who attended - Mr. Poleyeff, Mr. Vahedi, Mrs. Gottlieb, Mrs. Silverman, Rabbi Krinsky and Rabbi First - all look forward to incorporating many of the ideas into their own classes, and can't wait to see their students benefit from all the ideas they discussed at the conference!
