As many of you know, our annual Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) is our largest one-day event of the year, and students from across The Commonwealth come to participate in the legislative process. On March 26th, Benny Brown, II, Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, presented a webinar on what you should know before LEAD. If you weren't able to attend, you can still view the recording here.

We hope you are able to join us on April 23rd for a day of advocacy at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. for more info on Legislative Education and Advocacy Day, click here.

Graduating Students: Get Your Grad Cords!

Graduation is quickly approaching for many of our student members. NASW-PA would like to congratulate those who will be earning their social work degrees in the coming months! As student members of NASW-PA, you have the opportunity to purchase a graduation cord to proudly show off your social work pride at graduation. Grad cords are only $10, and can be purchased online here.

*We've heard that Marywood University does not allow you to wear cords from outside organizations. We haven't heard from any other schools so far, but you may wish to check with your school just to be sure!

Students of CWEB are Making a Difference

Senneca Davis is a current CWEB student at the California University of Pennsylvania. Senneca received the first "Social Work Research Award in Undergraduate Social Work" at the California University of Pennsylvania. This award was created by the social work department to honor the most outstanding research conducted by an undergraduate social work student each semester.

Senneca received the award for her grant funded literature review titled "A Critical Analysis of the Shootings of Unarmed African Americans by Police: A Social Work Perspective." Not only did Senecca receive the "Social Work Research Award in Undergraduate Social Work" for her work, she has presented at several conferences and will have it published in the Keystone Journal of Undergraduate Research this year.

By completing this comprehensive literature review, Senneca shows the drive to achieve social justice that is pivotal to not only social work in general, but also child welfare work.  CWEB and CWEL students and graduates carry this thirst for social justice into their work which provides a better future for the children and families they work with.

Child Welfare Social Workers: Leaders, Advocates and Champions

This month an article appeared attacking social workers with the many deaths of children. Of course the easy solution is to blame those in the front lines with a broken system and policies. Kansas NASW responded with this awesome video, outlining the importance of child welfare social workers. Please feel free to share!
