Protecting Lake Tahoe from plastic pollution
Last month, the South Lake Tahoe City Council directed city staff to develop an ordinance to protect Lake Tahoe from polystyrene litter. Disposable foam and plastic products are bad for Lake Tahoe. Since 2015 League volunteers have removed over 5000 pieces of polystyrene litter from the Lake’s shoreline.

By incorporating the League’s suggestions to strengthen the proposed ordinance by including a ban on sales of foam coolers, plates and cups---as well as requiring restaurants to make plastic straws and plastic utensils available only on request---the city has shown its commitment to the Jewel of the Sierra.
2018 brings improvements to how Pipe Keepers combat stormwater pollution
With a big winter storm arriving at Lake Tahoe this week, it's a good reminder that pollution from stormwater runoff---including from snowmelt---remains the most significant threat to the Lake’s world-famous clarity.

Earlier this year, we overhauled Pipe Keepers, our citizen science program to combat the threat of stormwater pollution. Learn what's new in 2018, and how you can get involved.
