The Huckleberry Advocacy & Response Team (HA&RT)

Huckleberry's Advocacy & Response Team

HA&RT provides services designed specifically for youth ages 11-24 who are experiencing commercial sexual exploitation or who are at risk. Youth are referred by county child welfare, Juvenile Probation, school staff, and medical providers. HA&RT services include: 24/7 response; case management services and referrals to increase safety and stabilize in basic needs such as housing, school, job training/employment, mental and physical health, and legal needs; and one-one-one prevention sessions that provide psycho-education around trafficking, vulnerability, boundaries, and consent.

San Francisco Public Schools Include Human Trafficking in Health Curriculum

Huckleberry's HA&RT team has been instrumental in adding human trafficking prevention lessons to San Francisco's middle and high school health education curriculum known as, "Be Real. Be Ready."  HA&RT Intervention Services Coordinator Carly Devlin says, "For middle school students, we talk about situations under the context of consent and boundaries. We talk about why it is important to have boundaries not just with strangers, but with people you know, because often traffickers are known people in a child's life." Read more about Huckleberry's partnership on trafficking curriculum in SF schools in the Chronicle of Social Change.

HA&RT Results
  • HA&RT provided case management and emergency response to 89 youth at risk of exploitation between July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017
  • 85% of youth eligible for ongoing case management continued to engage in case management.
