Message from the Facilities Committee
Dear Community,

Over the weekend on social media, there arose a robust discussion about our plans for our building.

At our invitation, a rep from District 10 attended our last listening session and afterwards, shared the info on the district 10 site.

Subsequent online discussion caught the interest of the Star Tribune, who came to the school and interviewed Director Ted Anderson and Facilities Chair Nic Ludwig. They also took some pictures. That article is here .

I am writing to all of you now with a couple of purposes in mind.
  1. Parents, family and friends may ask you about this and you'll likely feel better and answer better if you have read the articles. Now you're one click away.
  2. Some of you may find it helpful to know more details. If you were not able to attend the facilities listening sessions, I encourage you to watch the facilities presentation posted on the school's youtube page .
  3. In reading some of the online comments, it seems to me that a few additional relevant facts could better inform discussion:
  • TCGIS is a public school. TCGIS is not part of St. Paul Public Schools.
  • While TCGIS serves students from throughout the Twin Cities, around 250 are St. Paul residents. Add Falcon Heights and Roseville and over 300 of our kids come from pretty close by. Around 130 kids are from Minneapolis.
  • While we are growing, we are NOT expanding beyond three classes per grade. There is no plan to significantly increase our building's footprint. We project enrollment to top out between 615 and 630 in the next 3-4 years. (Max capacity is 3x24x9=648.)
  • The facilities committee has been looking at solutions for well over a year. All board committee meetings are public and posted on the school's public calendar.

After learning more details about the proposed project, please consider sharing your concerns with Facility Chair, Nic Ludwig, Nludwig@tcgis.org .  Also, consider sharing your support with St. Paul city council and district 10 community council.  The school is just starting the process of engaging the broader community with plans to speak at District 10 in April and/or having an open house.
